A man not being cocky or a show off has nothing to do with no drive or being docile it has to do with being respectful and mature.

Constant need to keep up with the Jonses, brags a lot, overly competitive. It's not confidence -- it's so obvious it all stems from deep insecurity.

Too conservative/religious.

No friends/interests of his own.
