Travis and Taylor

Apparently Taylor sold one of her private jets to a company in Missouri of all places.

Does anyone else think it was a mistake for Taylor to drop the news about the new album this weekend? Increasingly I think it was.

I get the idea behind seizing a moment when there is maximum attention on her to promo the new album, I do. But I feel like this might not apply to Taylor because she's SO big that there are always a lot of eyes on her.

I think announcing the album, especially given all the easter eggs/hints that it is going to be all about her breakup with Joe, might backfire and attract a lot of negative attention. Because it just seems weird to announce an album all about your ex when the world is in a fervor over your current relationship, and both you and your current boyfriend are having huge weeks in terms of your careers. It feels like flying too close to the sun, and for even big fans there's this whiplash involved, like we were just talking about Taylor and Travis and suddenly we're rehashing Taylor and Joe but also Taylor is going to be at the Super Bowl this weekend cheering on Travis? It's a lot in just a short time frame.

Playing 20/20 armchair publicist, I think it might have been better to just go to the Grammy's and collect her awards graciously with some semi-prepared remarks that kind of burnish her image and remind people what they like about Taylor (humor, self-effacing, etc.) in a way that makes it clear what a boss she is. Then go play Tokyo, then go to Las Vegas and perform the role of supportive (but also very accomplished in her own right, and gorgeous) girlfriend for Travis. THEN like the next day, drop the news of the new album and let fans and media have their feeding frenzy over the meaning of the album and track titles and the timing of the release, while Taylor heads out on her international tour with Travis, leaving breadcrumbs of the two of them grabbing cute little dates in foreign capitals as if to say "Yeah I wrote this album about my no-good ex, but look at me now. Enjoy the heartbreak songs, but there's light at the end of the tunnel."

I just think if she'd played it all a smidge differently, she wouldn't be getting attacked quite so much now and actually would be kind of untouchable.

On the other hand, here we all are, talking about it. Maybe she figures all press is good press and whatever gets people talking, in which case well done I guess.

My hunch is that she'll spend the rest of 2024 touring and promoting her new album and then take a major break in 2025. She has the best team in the business, and they likely see that the down-turn in tolerance for her is picking up even with fans. How that plays out with Kelce will be interesting. I'm still not convinced he's 100% into this. I think he bit off way more than he bargained for.

She’s really into Easter Eggs and numbers though. It was the 13th Grammy win. It takes lots of planning to drop an album. You can’t arbitrarily change your mind when lots of folks are working on this project and the date was likely decided for some time. She knew she would very likely win her 13th Grammy that night. I think the way she said it was the problem. It could have been phrased a little better. She didn’t spend enough time on the speech.

The Grammys ratings were up 34% over last year, and I’m certain part of that had to do with both Taylor and the Grammys teasing a big announcement. Sure there will be blowback, there always is, but people are talking about her, which is the point.

I agree. Everything is so calculated and planned, it makes it hard to pivot when real life happens. It's been awkward to say the least. I'm hoping it's not a break-up album, but unfortunately, I think it is. She's had it planned out for two years. Ugh.

Not announcing at the Grammys would not impact the release date. It's not like there's a rule you have to announce the album a certain number of days before release. She could have announced the album on February 13th. Make a joke about how if the 14th is Valentine's Day, the 13th must be Heartbreak Day, since it's obviously a breakup album. It's still two months before the album release -- it would have been fine.

The fact that it was her 13th Grammy and that number is important to her doesn't have to be tied to an album announcement. She could have just given a speech about how that award was extra special to her because it's her lucky number, and tied it to the album it was for. It was actually really awkward how she announced the new album and made that speech weird.

Even if this was the plan for a while, I think they should have read the room with all the Kelce stuff and said "ok lets delay the announcement a week so that it's not so much at once." Instead it's a build -- Taylor wins at the Grammys (looks great, gives a nice speech), the Super Bowl weekend builds off that goodwill (win or lose for the Chiefs, Taylor's not playing so she can look good no matter the outcome of the game as long as she seems happy and supportive), and then *boom* guess what I have a new album coming out.

I just don't see how announcing at the Grammy's serves her when the execution was so messy and the timing feels awkward and like too much all at once for her.

I like Taylor and am slightly embarrassed to admit I love a lot of her music but she had a bad PR week. Announcing her new record at the Grammies was a bit tone deaf, her interaction with Celine was cringe. She is immature and her relationship with Kelce is highlighting this facet of her character.

+1 feel the same way.

It explains so much of the cringey behavior but also her awkwardness, hyperfixations, stimming (especially with her hands!) and giant emotions (I have a kid on the spectrum). I don’t think she is a mean person. She’s quirky. I think she just doesn’t read the room perfectly at times and probably masks intensely. The wheels seem to be falling off the bus between the chiefs madness and now Grammys and then tour and Super Bowl and I would bet she is just super overstimulated.

You said it and now repeating it here.

She’s a talented musician, writer and artist. And she’s in shape, healthy and looks good.

She’s having a high profile year given the tour, movie, awards, new famous boyfriend, more touring and now a new album release.

Maybe it’s oversaturating. Or maybe social media and mass media will make it so. They can tank anyone just by flipping their face up on a video once a week.

Nope, I didn’t start it. Someone posted, another shared Reddit threads. I was reacting but felt this was a better thread to chat about it on since we are talking about her behavior.

I actually thought that for a short time, but what I saw last week convinced me otherwise. When he went to her before he left the field and said he was going to go enjoy with the guys, and said “love you, so much it’s not funny”, he had definite tears in his eyes as he walked away. They were not there as he walked up to her. That is real emotion.

We don't know for sure he said that

She said last night in Tokyo that she was going to announced in Tokyo if she didn't win her 13th grammy the other night.

I think it is just that her every move is being studied like crazy so she can't get away with anything. Yes that comes along with being person of the year, but it's not like she said in her speech that she wasn't wearing underwear (and I like Miley.)

Weird.
