| Yahoo email is always down now and is just a pain in the arse to use. What have they done? I'm about to officially defect permanently to gmail. Anyone else frustrated? I've not been able to send an email using yahoo all day. |
| I have wanted to defect to Gmail for years, but yellow makes it really difficult because they won't allow mail forwarding to Gmail. I hate Yahoo |
| You can forward if you buy the premium mail. I think it's about $25 for a year. I did it last Nov and as the messages come in, I've been updating my address to my gmail account. In Nov I will cancel yahoo all together. |
| OP again. And, now they added these tickler "non news' headers that blink at you. And, more n more spam is getting through to my inbox. Glad I'm not the only one. |
| I am always astounded to learn that people use anything BUT Gmail. |
| Yes, eventually I am going to get my act together and switch from Yahoo to Gmail. |
| People's emails have to reach you back in 1996. Of course it's glitchy. |
| Just dump Yahoo. |
| You just need to lean in. |

Back when Google was the latest, greatest search engine, I loved the company. Now, not so sure. They're everywhere. They track what I read, survey my email, photograph my house and yard and put it online for anyone to view.
Dunno. Don't trust them with my privacy. Their motto is "Do no harm," but they are basically just another for profit company. |
| Agree with PP. I don't trust Google AT ALL with my privacy. |
|
Agree with the wariness about Google. I remember joining Gmail when the only way to do so, was through an exclusive invitation.
These days, I don't trust Google with my privacy at all. I don't necessarily mean reading my e-mail or sending it to the government. But I don't trust them with letting me control my own privacy. Once you look your Youtube account, or photos, or Google Plus, or other things - it's permanent. You can't back out of it. Google isn't cool and novel anymore - it's a business. And we're the product (much like Facebook). Products don't get privacy. |
Then what do you use? |
I still use Gmail for my personal e-mail, but I've been thinking about leaving and finding something else. Even it if means paying a small yearly fee. When you're paying, at least you're not the product anymore, and will likely have greater control over your privacy. |

I use Yahoo as my semi-garbage account, like when I have to provide it online for something, but I still care about the email I might get in response, say Amazon or something like that. I rarely have problems with that account so I don't understand the OPs complaint.
Gmail is my total garbage account that I provide when I don't care about the responses I might get. They are too intrusive to trust with anything but garbage. You don't need to think of opening a Google account as "defecting", you can have both. Just be aware that it is all monitored, doesn't matter where you go. |
