In the meantime, there's just a lot of huffing and puffing about people who think they know every detail of how the transition will go.
My favorite take is that their will be no changes, nobody will want to switch teams and teams won't want better players, especially the older kids where my kid is and where I am really worried.

It is literally just like the last time we did this switch. Everyone acted like nothing would change and then suddenly, after tryout season, things had completely flipped with huge changes in teams. It just human nature.

This time players will not be forced to move teams as they can play up if they choose. The amount of player movement will definitely depend on each region and the number of ECNL, high level GA or RL teams in an area.

Also most ECNL teams do not have a high number of Aug-Dec players (typically 1-3) but most RL/GA teams are they same and not filled with a high number of Q3/4 either.

I do not think it will as much as a change next year as will be over the next 2-5 years of seeing more Aug-Dec players on teams.

Exactly! We will not see huge changes next year.

Can only speak for Southern California but there will definitely be at least 50% turn over on most ECNL/GA.

The big ECNL clubs have very solid RL teams with quality Q3/4 players. All these players will be able to make the ECNL team below or at the very least will make other local ECNL clubs which will start forcing players out. Lots of talent on the GA rosters as well.

Also no current uncommitted U17 players will chose to go U19 next year they will want to stay an additional year in U17 as it’s the most recruited age group.

I’m not in socal but recently watched a national championship winning ECNL boys side barely eke out a tie vs their RL side a year older. If yall don’t see the writing on the wall I’m not sure what to tell you.

Well, it's not a fair comparison unless the older team was nothing but Aug-Dec players.

50% of kids are Q4. The team barely made RL playoffs.

OMG how long until California plays out? Then the rest of us will know more in 6-7 months? This argument is getting old.

Starters? Regardless, seems like older kids, too, which makes a difference.

Not that there won't be a lot of changes but there are a couple of key differences this time... Fewer months affected and it's a smaller jump for them to play up vs. having Jan-Jul players under the BY switch.

Yes 5 months vs 6. I’m sure that factor will mean what happened last time will not happen again. You figured it out.

There'll definitely be more turnover than usual, BUT because of the cited factors, it won't likely be as extreme.

Yes it will be 1/6th less extreme. Spot on.

Well sure. But it illustrates how many potential players (moving up, down or out) there will be. There will be massive changes to every single top level team. To think otherwise is hilariously naive.

lol. Clubs care about players? Players come and go all the time. They care about fielding teams and making money.

Boys side will be a different compared to girls. There is a lot more boys playing so will mean more competition for the X amount of top team/club spots.

There will definitely be turn over on the girls side but won’t be as widespread as boys.

lol. Keep telling yourself that. There is literal history for you to look at and see the truth. But nah, nothing will change!

But again, this exactly what happened last time.

What history is that? Last time we went to birth year kids had to be kicked off because they were not age eligible. Now kids can just play up.

Which I think is going to be less likely as people think. Parents might say yeah we plan on playing up but the second their kids playing time gets challenged or a younger higher ranked team wants them they are gone.
It’s all to save face very few players will stay up.

We have about 12 Q3/Q4 NL, RL and RL2 players in my kid's older age group. I saw the RL practice. They are good. Many can beat younger NL. It will be a big change.

It would be stupid if any Q3/Q4 RL or GA players didn't try to make the younger NL team.

I just hope they can start the transition in the Spring season, so we have enough time to evaluate my kid's level after the change to find a suitable team. It will be a huge change, tryout week is not enough to evaluate.

Too many nervous people in this forum. Just panic by itself will make this board shoot to 1000 pages in few weeks. Relax guys!

What are you talking about? Kids and teams could play up last time too. Every single team had to be reformed and they were all very different. The same thing will happen again. It is not hard.

Parents and players are not going to get the choice to ‘play up’ unless they play up now (or they are at some tiny town club). If you have a coach telling you that they are either naive or are just saying whatever they can to keep people calm and get them through tryouts.

Most clubs haven’t even really discussed internally how they’ll handle this beyond, “we will figure it out later” so you’ll hear all kinds of wild talk here in the next months.

But at the end of the day, when tryouts roll around, they will just reform brand new teams at the new age groups with very rare exceptions playing up (just like now).

Hey, they need to care at least 0.01% otherwise we're moving on to a new club

I am really curious when clubs start to announce stuff. I am guessing that most will do it in early December. For clubs that run futsal, they probably want to get that organized and set first and then transition to next year is my guess.

You need to be prepared for many clubs (including some large prestigious ones) to do absolutely nothing until right before tryout season. These are mainly not well run orgs whose attention is almost always reserved for the current day/game.
