| Are there any that actually work (and safe to take) or is just a gimmick? Thanks |
| gimmick. |
| dangerous gimmick at times. |
| Anything that actually "works" has side effects. You can choose anal leakage (Alli), or arrhythmias (amphetamines), or word-finding problems (Topamax, aka Dopamax). |

OP here,
Thanks. Will have to stick with good old will power |

Phentermine works for a little while. Some drs add very small doses of prozac (you do not feel it) to help phentermine work because it usually stops working in a month or two. These pills are very inexpensive but you need a dr to prescribe them.
Great way to jump start weight loss. It just makes you less hungry. You still have to actually eat less and exercise. I find that sometimes when I've taken the pills, I lose less weight than when I try without it. For some reason, I feel like I have this crutch and I am not as careful. I won't be hungry all day so I eat very little. Then at night time, the pill wears off and I am go hungry and eat bad foods. The pill really makes you so much less disciplined because you just aren't hungry. You really don't practice living in a normal world when you need to eat right to make sure you are satisfied but not too much. So I guess there is just no magic pill. I do think people who have tried and tried on their own without success should try using something to help them jump start their weight loss. The most beneficial thing is to do this with a group. Everytime you want to eat something bad or skip exercise, you feel like you are letting everyone down. |

I had success with phentermine. I lost 13 lbs in the first 30 days and then about 10 more over the next two months. Other than popping one pill a day, it took no real effort on my part. I didn't even think about food and ate very little. I could not clear a small plate of food at all. And then it wore off.
yes, there are some risks, so you need to take those into consideration. Definitely ONLY try it under doctor supervision. There are websites that supposedly sell them, but that would be extremely dangerous. Who knows what's actually in those pills. I had to go back to my dr every 30 days to make sure my vitals were still good and that it was still working. Once it stopped working, he quit prescribing it. Simple as that. As he stated, there is nothing like being a "phentermine virgin" and using it for the first time. the pounds just melt away quickly and you have tons of energy. Also an increased heart rate, which is scary but also normal. Once it wears off, you can never really go back to it. I tried again a year later and had no luck at all. Most of my weight stayed off, but I did gain some back. Honestly, I felt a false sense of security from it, so I didn't try very hard to keep it off. I didn't heed his warning that it will likely only work once, so I thought I could just come back to it later. After about a year, I had gained about 10 pounds back. I thought surely I'd have my "virginity" back after a year. But it was useless, so I stopped after a few weeks. I wish I'd tried harder to keep the weight off. |
| I am sorry but I disagree. Took one last year for 3 months. Lost 15 lbs and have kept it off. Seeing and feeling SO much better was a great incentive to keep at it. Sometimes a good one can give that jump start that is so needed! |
08:43 here. Not sure if I'm the one you are disagreeing with. I wish I'd had your attitude while I was taking it, and coming off of it. I think I saw it as a safety net that I could always come back to. As long as you realize that's not the case, I think it's worth considering. I'm glad I did it. |
| Gimmick. |
| Likely to do more harm and good - please remember that while getting one's weight to a reasonable range is good, that there's a lot more to your body's health. Please don't fall for diet pills. |
| I agree. Good diet, reasonable portions, and exercise are the way to go. Too bad I cant follow my own advice. |

Ephedrine (bronk aid) paired with Caffeine actually works and is widely used in the sports world.
It has a few caveats: 1) It wont make up for terrible diet; it just helps a little bit when your diet is good. 2) It will suppress appetite a lot; however the effect wears off after about 2 weeks - often people cycle 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off or similar. It's the real deal, grey area legal. That said - focus on your diet and lift weights first and foremost. |
| Just legal cocaine. I'd feel safer taking that Over pills. |
| I have always heard they can be very dangerous |
