| At school. The lunch able post made me think abt it. Apparently the "healthy snack" that I pay $200 a yr per kid for, is actually a pop tart of their choice. I'm a little annoyed that all this time I've been paying and they are getting pop tarts. Am I wrong to be upset? |
| No, you're not wrong. I would definitely spread word to others who may be unaware, and ask those responsible about it. |
| Nope. I'd be upset too and I give my kids pop tarts. I would say something to the director. |

I LOVE Poptarts so much!!! I eat them almost every morning as do my kids. Yummy!!!!
No fat folks in my house so I don't worry about the extra calories. |
Enjoy your diabeetus. |
I love PopTarts on occasion too, but that's not really the point. OP pays the school $200 a year to furnish a healthy snack and they're passing out processed baked goods. The school is cheating the parents and lying to them. |
Give me a break. Sugar doesn't cause diabetes. |
Not every calorie is the same. If they were eating the same number of calories in carrots and hummus, or nuts, it's much more beneficial to body chemistry and health. |
Not likely. We eat a balanced diet. A pop tart isn't going to hurt anyone. My oldest three are in college. Totally healthy. Very athletic. One on a Crew scholarship. My high school kids run track and row. My husband and I are 46. He is 6'1 160 pounds. Just finished his fifth marathon. I am 5'4 and 115. Just finished my seventh. We are in better shape than 99% of the people I see walking around. Low cholesterol, low BP, no chronic illnesses at all. Bragging? Nope. Just pointing out that you don't have to eat fat free, sugar free, taste free food to be healthy. Everything in moderation. If we were fatties, I certainly wouldn't buy Poptarts. But we aren't. So we get to enjoy their delicious fruity goodness guilt free! |
The problem isn't the Poptarts...it's the $200 she pays for them to eat them. I'd be upset too. |
Yeah. That might annoy me. Those are some expensive Poptarts! They had better be the frosted kind! |
And Cherry! |
| My kids have never had a pop tart and I hope that their school wouldn't consider a pop tart as an acceptable snack for children healthy or not, $200 or not. OP I'd be upset and yes Id hope you'd spread the word. |

Op here. Thanks pps it's more like $600 a yr for 3 kids. I talked to another mom who said that she knew this and also apparently they are not feeding them good lunches either. I asked dcs did they like the school lunch and they always say yes... That's because they alternate between Pizza Hut pizza, Chinese takeout from the carry out next door and fried fish made at the school. They can either drink kool aid, milk or sweet tea. It is a small school, only 15 in my dcs classes and it only goes infant to 1st grade.
The more I hear the more I am compelled to go to the school and complain. But for the next 2.5 weeks I will be packing dcs lunches and snacks. Also the school doesn't provide a menu but however says that they are providing a "wholesome and nutritious meal" BS. |
| An occasional pop tart won't kill anyone, but this would piss me off! |
