Exercises to tone shoulders?

Anonymous
My arms are in fairly decent shape, but for whatever reason, my shoulders don't have much definition. Can anyone recommend some specific exercises to tone/strengthen shoulders?

Dumbell shoulder press. Don't use 5 lb weights. Go as heavy as you can for 5 reps. Repeat 5 times. I'm thinking. 15-20 lb dumbells.

Buy 5 lb. weights

Hold 1 in each hand (arms down at sides)

Slowly raise arms up/down like flapping wings - but not above shoulder level. Repeat till it burns. Then do another set. If it gets too easy, get 8 lbs.

Forget the 5lb weights. Start with 7.5 and move up as quickly as you can to 10, 12.5 & 15.

I do 15lb presses. 3-4 set of 10 reps. In between a set, I rest for 60 sec

Power yoga is great for shoulders too, and you don't need any equipment, though a mat is helpful.

The classic sun salutation A series is great for shoulders - try googling it. You start standing, swan-dive down, then jump or step back into plank, which is the high position of pushups. Lower down slowly into chataranga, which is the low pushup position, then adjust into upward facing dog and then back into downward dog. I feel like downward dog really works the shoulders.

Pushups. That's all. I think my shoulders and arms are my best feature. They are very cut. All I do is pushups. Lots of them. Every day. And not on my knees. Also, switch up your hand positions. Do some tricep pushups, some with your arms far apart, some close together but with elbows going out, some with your hands facing inward, some facing outward...

I agree with others that that is simply a starter weight and won't do much for definition, but this is a good exercise. Also, don't forget to do the forward raise. If you just do the side raise, the shoulders will not get that rounded look, as the muscles won't be balanced. You need to work out the front AND sides.

Sorry, but downward dog is part of my cool down stretch from an Insanity workout. If that is representative of "power yoga" I will stick with HIIT.
