Chubby, short mom needs help finding a few nice outfits for special event weekend - please help!

I need some major fashion help. My DH decided at the last minute for us to attend his law school reunion next month. Problem is that I'm still carrying around way too much baby fat. I was overweight before our last baby (6 mo old) but now I'm in the obese category. I am working on that, but I do need a few nice outfits to wear for this weekend coming up.

I am a petite 16 (maybe 14 on top, but with big nursing boobs) with some angry stretch marks all down my legs so I really don't wear skirts/dresses. Plus, I have this bulgy stomach thing that wasn't there before. And somehow I have fat arms now too. Yuck. I just don't know how to dress myself now. Any of my old clothes that I can somehow squeeze into just aren't flattering. Plus they seem dated. And my current wardrobe just isn't nice enough.

Any stores that you'd recommend for a few nice outfits in my size? A fashion consultant who works with this size?

Or better yet, any outfit ideas? We will have a casual dinner, a slightly more formal dinner, and lots of walking around campus to various social events (wine tasting, etc.) during the day. It is in the Northeast so hopefully the weather won't be too hot & sticky.

And since this is anonymous I can also admit that a very serious ex-boyfriend will be there (we were all friends in college) so I really don't want to look horrible. I know I will be fat - no way around that - but I'm REALLY hoping to find some flattering clothes. And I already cannot wait until the next reunion so I can be smoking hot when I see him again.

Nursing boobs tip: I am also petite (5'2") and chubby and felt that misses tops and dresses fit much better while my boobs were huge. I don't know how tall you are but it's worth trying.

Given the exBF, I advise some tasteful cleavage. Also a fantastic pair of shoes because regardless of your weight, your feet can look great, and it will make you feel good and confident.

Try nordstroms. I had to shop for a wedding with too much baby weight and no up-to-date clothes, and i found very few options except at nordstroms. I have not used it, but i know they have a personal shopper service. I would get some cute dresses, then take them to the lingerie department and get some spanx (it works miraces) and get fitted for a new bra. Those two things will make a major difference.

Dress comfortably and appropriate for the weather (nothing worse than trying to cover up problem areas, but ending up all sweaty instead!).

Anything new with a statement necklace, nails and hair done, and you'll feel like a million bucks.

i think a top that cinches under the boobs or at the high waist would be good. It will pull you in making you look thin, show off your waist and accentuate your boobs.

I also think maxi dresses are slimming and can go from casual to dressy. You might have to get it hemmed, but that is easy.

what about a personal shopper at nordstrom?

i think pinterest is a good place to look for ideas.

Sounds like it will be a lot of fun!

Get fitted for a bra. Once the boobs are lifted your waist will elongate.

Get shoes with a bit of a heel and a low vamp.

Whatever you wear, keep the neckline open so the eye is drawn to your face.

Good makeup and see a stylist.

You'll rock! Enjoy your trip.

Where will it be? That'll tell us if it's super hot, or if the style there is more dressy or preppy or whatever. Oh, I se you said northeast, which is good the last thing you want ot is to be sweaty.

I second the white jeans idea for one outfit. That can look really sharp, no matter your size.

ALso second bra fitting - after babies, you're probably wearing the wrong bra, or older bras you'll replace "when you lose the weight." Having a nice bra on will make you feel confident.

Depending on your style, check out lands end. You have ot be picky, but they have some nice thing in forgiving fabrics and styles that might suit.

Also consider wearing jackets -they can help give you shape, provide coverage, and can look sharp.

Basically, I've decided if you take care in your wardrobe and just look pulled together, you'll be doing better than the majority of people. So strive for polished, poised, confident.
