NO! You will look like a sack.

Talbots has tons of petite and petite plus stuff.

I was wondering about a jacket to give structure, but I guess the fit would have to be right so it's not too bulky or too tight in certain areas. Maybe a bit of tailoring is in order if I can't find something off the rack?

And white jeans - love the look on others. So crisp. Will need to put away fears and give them a try.

Thank you!

And I guess I'll need to at least try on a couple dresses - my legs are so disgusting though I'd prefer to just cover them up with pants.

Thank you again for the ideas - this will really help whenever I can break away to the store this week.

Look for long, straight cut silk skirts. Buy beautiful shoes, get a pedicure in a hot color. You won't look like you're trying to cover your legs, but they'll still be covered.

I'm in the same boat, OP, and I've hit up Talbots a lot lately.

Their silk tanks are flattering with a cardigan or a jacket and then some crisp trousers on bottom and fun shoes.

I just bought this dress in black and it is really flattering, especially with the boob issue. I've got fat arms, so tossed a wrap over top: http://www.talbots.com/online/browse/product_details.jsp?id=prdi30499&rootCategory=cat70014&catId=cat80018&sortKey=Default§ion=Regular&conceptIdUnderSale=cat70014

Steer clear of their cotton wrap shirts, though -- a little boob goes a long way in them. I looked seriously porny!

Do not do white. It does not flatter chubby women. And I say that as a chubby woman.

No clingy material dresses.

No trying to fit into a size 14. Buy the 16 and be realistic look at size 18.

Whatever you buy, turn to the side, and look in the mirror. Is the fabric pulling, do you see clearly defined bulges against the fabric?

I also think maxi dresses are slimming and can go from casual to dressy. You might have to get it hemmed, but that is easy.

This 5' 2" , size 14 top and 10 bottom woman with giant boobs says stay far, far away from maxi dresses.

Agreed. I'm 5'1" and 110 lbs (size 2-4P)and maxi-dresses only work on really tall thin women. I feel like I can't even reach them off the rack to look at the price tag!

How about pastel or patterned jeans? I find white to be tough to pull off, especially if you're looking for a day to evening look.

No white pants. No trendy pastel jeans. No maxi dresses. Yes to classic clothes with trendy jewelry, shoes or bag. Go to Trousseau in Vienna and get a bra fitting.

OP, I am also in the same boat!! Definitely agree on Talbots. And don't be afraid to buy the size that looks best -- even if it is in the plus section. Just cut out the tag if it depresses you. Sometimes I try to squeeze into a 14 and it doesn't look good.

Ok, the white jeans. I resisted them for a long time. BUT, with all the pretty tunic tops, they were kind of unavoidable. So I got some (after trying on many many many) and I like them with tunics -- your butt is covered, and if you get a tunic in a darker color -- navy maybe -- I think it is a good look even for us short chubby ladies.
That said, I don't think the Talbots tunics are a good cut. They are so boxy. Other tunics are longer and leaner and look better.

I am so invested in this thread. OP, you'll have ot tell us how it goes.

Ignore the people saying no to white. Yes, it looks better on thinner people. But doesn't everything? They will look fine on you if you wear them with confidence. Half the key to white is just how cool and crisp it looks - that's the punch that elevates the outfit.

I do second the person saying buy what FITS. Do not do what I do which is buy things a hair too tight since i am "losing weight." For this weekend, but fir the size you are, no matter the size.

I would high tail it down to SPringfield, to the Talbot's Clearance store there. SOOOOOO Cheap, and the last time I was there it was all summer stuff- last year's, but a huge slection and you can pick and choose.

Also, was just looking at Ann Taylor - they have 40% off sale dresses (maybe today only) - check out these, depending on your body shape they may or may not work 9they only go to size 14, but sometimes AT is cut generously):

this with a seater or jacket to cover arms:

this might work for me, but I am not super well endowed, so might not work for a larger chest:
