Remember when you were in college and you thought Dave Matthews lyrics really spoke to that time in your life? Those days were so long ago. I need to find out what artists speak to the overworked, overstressed mommy. Please recommend some music that is helping you get through this time in your life. |
Pretty much anything by Sarah McLachlan, especially Angel. I am also currently in love with Brandi Carlile's The Story. I also enjoy quite a few songs from the Grey's Anatomy soundtracks. |
Sorry, but it's still Dave Matthews for me (LOVE HIM). And, tell me these lyrics don't still speak to the lives of many people these days:
He wakes up in the morning Does his teeth bite to eat and hes rolling Never changes a thing The week ends the week begins She thinks, we look at each other Wondering what the other is thinking But we never say a thing And these crimes between us grow deeper Take these chances Place them in a box until a quieter time Lights down, you up and die Goes to visit his mommy She feeds him well his concerns he forgets them And remembers being small Playing under the table and dreaming Driving along on this highway All these cars and upon the sidewalk People in every direction No words exchanged, no time to exchange and when All the little ants are marching Red and black antennae waving They all do it the same They all do it the same way Candyman tempting the thoughts of a Sweet tooth tortured by weit loss Program cutting the corners Loose end, loose end cut cut On the fence, not to offend Cut cut cut cut Take these chances Place them in a box until a quieter time Lights down you up and die Lights down you up and die |
These days I like music I can chill out to, so I've been listening to:
Thievery Corporation Air Groove Armada Moby Tiki Tones The "Vintage Chill" and "Elemental Chill" cd compilations and stuff like that. Gets me moving, and my infant DS seems to like it. |
Funny, I had that same thought this morning. Pachelbel's Canon in D was playing on my ipod, and I caught myself smiling on the metro. I thought, I need to find more music that actually makes me smile. (I'm not a strict classical person or anything, but something about Canon, as hackneyed as it's become, is just so uplifting.) |
Jack Johnsons-Sing along songs (It's great, fun, and catchy)
Ben Harper-Anything he does is great! I know Im like you, always looking for 'new' Music to listen to that will inspire me or get me thinking or feeling....but then I always go back to the ones I loved years ago, they say..."oldie but a goodie" and I believe thats so true! ![]() |
I'm a huge Bossa Nova freak. Love Astrud Gilberto (old school) and Bebel Gilberto (new school) along with mellow stuff like Thievery Corporation and DePhazz. I find that I need mellow stuff to listen to more than lyrics. I can't pay attention to the lyrics anyway with a screaming two year old!! |

OP here... thank you for taking the time to recommend your favorites. Some of them are my "oldies" that I just might have to go back to. |
Try Greatest Hits of Beethoven. During my pregnancy is helping me to relax and take certain things easier. I'm in the late 30's, so sometimes I go back to Huey Lewis and The News to give me a shot of energy and to remind me the great time I had during the concert at Wolftrap, Vienna, VA. |

I'm with you! Love all these artists and am a huge, huge music lover. If you like Thievery Corporation, you might like Gotan Project and Buddha Lounge. Funny you mention Bebel...I thought I put her "Girl From Ipanema" on my playlist for Samba class, but accidentally put Frank Sinatra's instead....haha. oh well, it still had the samba beat, so we danced to it anyway. Also love: Sergio Mendes Angelique Kudjo Bobby Brazil Carlinhos Brown |
Chico Buarque
Marisa Monte Martinho da Villa |
Kings of Leon

Jem - relaxing urban beat with good melody. |
