I need music in my life

Someone might ask, so what kind of fan demographics are members of this forum ? Well, I would say the Billy Joel crowd.

You might be right, but... ugh.

From,

Not a Member of the Billy Joel Crowd
Hey now-forty five year old here-don't knock Billy Joel. How old are you anyway? Ever heard of the Beatles? The Stones? OK, Aerosmith maybe? Sad, sad, sad-going shopping for a wheelchair tomorrow-are Sears stores still open?

I am so busy (lame?) that I can't remember the names of the music I like, much less come up with new ones. I am really loving Radio Paradise (internet radio - www.radioparadise.com) and Pandora right now, esp. Pandora stations where you basically say, hey, I like the Pixies so give me other music that's similar you think I'd like.

But to help with your actual question:

Tom Waits
Neville Bros
Peter Tosh
Pixies
Pogues
Neil Young
Corinne Rae Bailey
Throwing Muses

Hey, does anyone know who sings that sweet new song 1-2-3 (probably not the actual name of it)? It's by some young guy and I love it.

I'm Not the Billy Joel Crowd. I'm 31. I like Billy Joel fine, I have seen him in concert, I find him unobjectionable and nice... but not awesome, and I would never, ever describe myself as the Billy Joel "crowd" (obviously). Billy Joel is just not even in the top twenty of artists that I would label myself with.

Please, please tell me that you do not think Billy Joel is the same as the Beatles and the Stones. Not the same. NOT THE SAME.

I mean, you may be right, but you may be crazy... (Haha, see what I did there?)

Lucinda Williams
Wilco
Neko Case
Emmylou Harris
(I've really gotten into alt country lately)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs

It's also fun to rediscover old favorites. Depeche Mode, New Order, Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis

It's interesting that if a husband & wife go to a rock concert of a male singer/band, the woman will say, "he's still hot", while the guy says, "he can still rock !!!"

Mellow: Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson

Not so Mellow: Franz Ferdinand

I love all kinds of music (except maybe country and Bavarian yodeling). My mp3 player has everything from Joe Jackson and Tori Amos to Eminem and old school Metallica. I am now on on 80s Michael Jackson kick.

I was really impressed with Ne-Yo when I saw him for the first time on Tavis Smiley. I also love Ray Lamontagne. I still listen to Pearl Jam and Radiohead; those songs just never get old. My favorite album of the last couple of years is probably Serj Tankian, but I don't think that falls into the "mainstream" category.

I love youtube because you can find any kind of music and listen to whole songs. Just make up a playlist with that handy feature and see what strikes your fancy.

This is my favorite song. It is by Captain Beefheart. The lyrics speak to me also. It was between this and Alice Cooper's Hey Stoopid.

It's so hot
looks like you have three beaks crow
the moon's so full
white hat on a pumpkin
you know there's something
the moon was a stone's throw
stop the show
I need to say hello
to the crow
light the fire piano
the moon showed up
and it started to show
tonight there'd be ice cream
ice cream for crow
ice cream for crow
sun cream by day
ice cream for crow
ice cream by night
ice cream by day
the sun ain't stable
ice cream for crow
crow pants the scarecrow
crow dance ah ho ho
crow dance ah panther
scare crow you answer
you can hee and haw
laugh and scratch
ha ha ha
ha ha ha
boss and toss
don't shake my hand
give me your claw
two tears in a haystack
scarecrow get back
tonight there's gonna be
a feather treatment
beneath the symbol
we'll all assemble
oh how we'll fly
oh how we'll tremble
cut the cake
we'll all get well
turn up the speakers
hop flop squawk
it's a keeper
ice cream for show
ice cream for crow
now now that's it
now you can go
