Should have made this broader to begin with. And before you ask, no, I'm not here to push any particular school, just DC public schools in general. |
Okay, refresh my memory, how old will the kids be in January? |
Second and fifth, I believe. (Although I'm not completely, totally sure.) |
Their kids are in private school now. Why on earth do you think they'd put them in public school here? Not happenin'. |
Ignore the snooty private school mom. |
Amen 14:42 |
So I'm guessing that a big factor would be the physical facilities and whether adequate security could be ensured. My kid went to Hyde and we loved it but I don't think it has a large enough campus for the security needs. |
Word on the circuit, is that they are going to attend Maret. Excellent choice, I think. BTW, they would NEVER put their kids in DCPS. Aside from Mann, Murch, Lafayette, Janney, Oyster, no conscionable parent, with resources, would send their kid through the DCPS system. You all are in denial. |
Wow. |
So in fact these schools would be quite acceptable? |
Depends on the kid. Murch has a lot of issues (I would not send my kids there but have many friends who do so.) Lafayette has quite a few mediocre teachers. Oyster has many kids attending whose parents are bold face, names (Rhee, Reinoso) so you know the school administrators are on responsive. Mann admin tries to be quiet and autonomous so they can fly under the radar. It's worked. It's program can curriculum can compete with the privates. Otherwise, you're SOL. What can I say--if you can't handle the truth then move to the 'burbs. |
Janney is just o.k. Very crowded. I've heard about some questionable judgement calls on the part of teachers. |
Does circuit = DCUM echo chamber? |
nope. |
Guess I'm an unconscionable parent for having sent my kid to Hyde along with all those other kids from upper middle class families. And all this time I thought she was getting an excellent education. I guess I, with my puny little PhD, must not know what I'm talking about! |
