I feel so old school with wearing pantyhose - help me to break out of my shell!

Ok, I am W-H-I-T-E, as in Casper's sister. My legs literally glow in the dark. So now that the weather's warming up and I'm finally back into wearing skirts and dresses (it's been 10+ years, don't ask, I was going through a phase coupled with having three children), I'm completely self-conscious about not wearing pantyhouse. I remember my mother and grandmother wearing them and having the ends of the hose showing through their sandals - I do NOT want to be like that!!

I've noticed that hose seem to be a thing of the past these days - I see more women not wearing them than women who do wear them. Does anyone else have hideously pale legs and have no problem going without? Do you just go "as is", or do you try to tan your legs up first?

I know this is totally - TOTALLY - a first-world problem...... TIA!

I have horribly pale legs and dark coarse hair -- so I still wear hose because I feel like my legs look stubbly even immediately after shaving. They make me feel less self conscious.

I don't see what the problem is with letting your natural skin color show. I'm extremely pale too and never wear hose. No one has ever said anything to me (except in Asia, where my friends/coworkers were so jealous of how pale I was!)

Just go with what you have.

First, at least for work, I tend to wear skirts that are at least to the knee, or just below. I feel much less self-conscious in them than skirts that are above-the-knee.

Last summer, I started using Arbonne self tanner spray. It works very well. I spray it on and rub it in very thoroughly/evenly. My legs tan and it lasts for several days. I probably used it about twice/week for the summer. The only downside was that it does not have a pleasant smell and I would continue to smell it for much of the rest of the day while sitting at my desk (not so much if I got up & walked around). Also, I realized that little drops of spray wind up on the bathmat, and stained the bathmat.

My legs are also super white, but why should I be ashamed of them? Nobody is going to be fooled into thinking I live at the beach because I put on self-tanner. They are shaved and moisturized and completely presentable as is.

(That being said, I wear opaque tights in the winter and sheer or micro fishnet nude hose in spring and fall transitional weather. I go bare-legged in the summer only.)

This is 14:02 - I should have also said - with the self-tanner, my legs tan just a little. It's not like I've got a deep, dark tan. It just gives me a little color instead of being stark, blinding white.

+1. That and feeling cold are the only reasons I wear hose.

Thank god.

Use a gradual tanning moisturizer - put it on lightly at first and stop using when you have reached "no-longer-fish-belly" color.

Mine are super white. One time some girls saw me in a parking lot and said, "OMG--she needs to go to a tanning salon!" Whatever. If you don't like them, don't look at them!

Yes I wear hose because I am a lady. Bare legs are for children and whores. Don't wear reinforced hose if you want to wear sandals.

Where better hose! If plain old stockings make you feel old, get nude hose with dots or some other pattern.

Wow--sorry...wear not where.

When you find yourself responding to a Fashion thread in the voice of Norman Bates' mother, it's probably best to put down the Internet and walk away.

Just sayin'.
