I was impressed by this effort!

Yup. To keep us from doing it. Haha

Teachers aren’t happy about this call.

I’m just surprised. A lot of stress and worry for a short amount of time.

Let's be clear, many of us, Parents aren't happy about this either. Not sure what those who are happy and insisted on this weird one day before the weekend are hoping to gain.

This sounds oddly like “we’re educators, we want to be back in school too…when it’s safe”.

It sounds like you cannot explain any tangible benefit from that one day of school tomorrow before a weekend when the school was closed for the last 3 weeks.

It sounds like you can’t define “when it’s safe”.

I can, it's why I am not sending mine out tomorrow

We went to the library today to swap out books but that's the first time we've gone out of our area since Sunday, yes. We WFH, kids can walk to friends houses, no need to get out on the streets in a car and make them worse just for fun.

It's on their parents. FCPS sent the communication. Hopefully their moms will pick up the phone when they are in the midst of their pilates class and save them from freezing.

I think you people forget that a lot of FCPS parents are immigrants and/or non-English speaking and/or work nights etc. the kids that will be affected are not the ones whose parents post in this group.

How are kids supposed to get to the main roads when they have to walk through their winding residential streets with no sidewalks full of ice and snow? You all live in a grid?

Sounds like you have a plan that works for you. Our roads (mains and sides) have been dry since Tuesday.

The same way they made it to the sledding slopes all week.

So those people have been driving all week at all hours to get to their jobs while you WFH and only make necessary trips and maybe place an Instacart order or two and now you’re speaking up for their children. That’s right?

Actually I teach these kids.

The parents in this group voted for Kamala. That was enough caring for someone other than themselves.

Our alternate stop is closer to our house and saves kids from having to walk down a steep hill with unplowed sidewalks.

I don’t get it either. I’m in Loudoun and I think they should have gone on time yesterday (Thursday!)

Again, stop playing dumb. Some areas had seen plows and salt and people living there assume everything is clear. There are tons of residential area that hadn't seen either and there were even texts/emails issued to parents about alternative bus stops if you don't believe me. Why would they do so had everything been cleared?

Then stay home. Your choice.

I am. Just wanted to make sure it's an excused absence and kids who cannot show up (there will be lots of those) aren't put at a disadvantage with extra work or missed material. Enjoy your child-free time while your kids are watching movies with the pissed off teachers.

Missed material? On a Friday after an almost 3 week break? Okay, Karen.

Then why are people so desperate to send their kids for some benefit they can't quantify? If kids aren't missing anything then the advantage is purely for the parents. Maybe you should ask the AP exams Karens here, I can't answer.

Because if they go tomorrow they can start doing some review. So hopefully next week they can get back on track.

They can't start that review 3 days later (2 of which fall on a weekend)?

After lows in the mid to low 20’s all weekend causing refereeing of the melting everyone is apparently counting on and the possibility of 1-3 more inches of snow, you’re going to be more ok with school on Monday than you are right now?

It’s not ideal. But I don’t see it getting significantly better any time soon, either, so at what point do you suggest we figure out an alternative that isn’t keeping schools closed for another week? It’s become clear that we can’t rely on VDOT and the non-sidewalk-shoveling neighbors to help conditions improve.

No one has addressed how it’s magically all better Monday. High of 45 Sunday isn’t going to melt this off.

Maybe we need to revise how snow is handled and why so many residential streets in central suburban areas are still not plowed days later while apparently they show they are. if we want economy moving.. like they do in the areas where snow is common and 6 inches of snowfall is not an emergency.
