“Less valid” MPD are incentivized and do report crime data in a way that satisfies their interests at any point in time. A “more valid” way would be to report current month against monthly 5/10-year average with error bars showing significance threshold. Otherwise it is not possible to interpret this data. |
It would also be equally “valid” to report and plot rolling 12-month averages to smooth out any seasonality. “Less valid” |
| Yep. Been here 27 years, 20 of them in the same house in Petworth. I’ve had it. Crime is out of control. The city is completely unsafe. Everything is a hassle. The mayor’s inability to prioritize crime has paved the way for petty crime like porch pirates, to completely run unabated, which chisels away at everyone’s sense of safety and quality of life. After nearly three decades, I hate it here. |
| I miss Marion Barry. |
| I’m sending this link to friends who are moving to DMV area. |

I was walking my dog yesterday on Connecticut in Woodley Park, and a black man yelled at me that he wasn’t a criminal.
Dude, I give zero f*cks about you. Can you please just let me walk my dog in peace? |
That’s the problem...the loss of peace and security for average law abiding, tax paying residents, while the government bends over backward to accommodate those who take that peace and security. And everyone is basically on their own in DC. 911 is a failure, the cops don’t give a rip, even firehouses respond lackadaisically (I’ve witnessed it). The government counts on you to keep yourself secure. It’s an illusion. You are on your own. |
+1. Fortunately for me my dog is a German shepherd. So at least he didn’t get too close while he was accosting me.

At least we have our choice of bike lanes to use when leaving the city...? |

| Criminals everywhere in DC. |
You do understand why he would do that right? |
So sell your house. You'll make a bundle. You lie. 27 years ago people were getting murdered every day in Petworth. I was here. I wouldn't have lived in Petworth then and damn sure wouldn't live there now. FWIW, I live in DC. |

Every single large city in America (those run by Dems and Rs) are grappling with this increase in crime. Experts have said that it's not just poverty created by Covid. When you have sudden economic uncertainty, crime goes up. There are studies about this. The problem was that the US handled the economic devastation differently then other developed countries. Europe did a much better job. As things settle, crime will go back down.
Regardless, crime is much lower than it was 25 years ago, even with the uptick. That's the reality. |
