Is it true the Big 3 kids are getting hammered this year- and by that I mean bad admissions results?

By RD time, everything settles out. Great students from all the local schools get into top schools (maybe not their first choice but still top schools that look good in the matriculation list). It's not 1995 anymore but these schools still place well.

+1 I am seeing the same.

NCS and STA are fantastic on the college front this year--if anything they're better than ever.

Just assume the rich will always find a way to get in.

Thank GOD the tide has turned and so happy that these families can show their faces at the Chevy Chase Club again. So hard on everyone!

Not surprising. Most of the kids at these schools are unbelievably smart and hard working. As the progeny of unbelievably smart and hard working parents, this is to be expected.

I looked at the list of girls at NCS who were just inducted into the Cum Laude Society (top 20%, so 16 girls). Of the ones I know, 7 are going to an Ivy, 3 to Stanford, 2 to UChicago. Not one of the families belongs to CCC.

PP would not know or she wouldn’t call Chevy CCC.

I agree. The NCS senior class college list (so far) is very impressive.

Cum Laude can be misleading as it's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. Colleges look at official HS school transcript grades leading up to application as well as difficulty of coursework taken. Cum Laude excludes 9th grade (includes some non-transcript grades) and does not differentiate between coursework (honors, etc.) as there is no grade weighting. This year looks to be similar to previous years in that there are likely more admits (not listed as Cum Laude) admitted to these same schools based on their official school transcript - certainly good news for a COVID year!

While I don’t disagree with PP’s assessment, the gross characterization leaves out a distinct group - exceptionally talented, dedicated, strong students who apply ED because they know where they want to go. It’s a real subgroup that needs to be included.

+1 Students who have narrowed in on where they hope to go.

Yes, and also kids with the stats for a shot at the very top schools who decide they’re happy with a school in the next tier, for any number of reasons. In my kid’s case, they wanted to be one and done.

I only know about NCS as we have girls there and the list is very impressive.
I am delighted for them all. It’s a very demanding program.
Crushed it
