FYI - some neighborhoods with Potomac addresses aren't zoned for Potomac schools currently. Your school city/zip code is not the same as your house city/zip. Boundaries should be redrawn. |
Schools in Potomac are Montgomery County Public Schools. There is no such thing as the Potomac School District. |
Do you work for MCPS? Did you use the same argument in another thread to justify Clarksburg students going to school in Germantown and Germantown students going to school in Clarksburg? |
I don't understand this paranoia. As though everybody who disagrees with you must be getting paid to do so. Do you object to Montgomery Village students going to school in Germantown? http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/NeelsvilleMS.pdf Or Clarksburg students going to school in Damascus? http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/DamascusHS.pdf Or Silver Spring students going to school in Rockville? http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/WoodMS.pdf Or Rockville students going to school in Bethesda? http://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/WalterJohnsonHS.pdf Should I keep going? |
DP. MCPS doesn't categorize "Germantown students" and "Clarksburg students." A student is a student. The "city"/zip code of the student's home does not necessarily match that the "city"/zip code of the school. Nor should it have to. When walking to a school is possible, that should be reflected in the boundary lines, again, regardless of zip code lines. But if students are taking a bus to school no matter what, then whether that bus ride is 3.8 miles to the west or 4.2 miles to the east should definitely be looked at according to all of the factors. |
You sure sound like a MCPS spokesperson. |
I'm not PP, but it's really bizarre to me that reciting normal, factual information about how countywide school districts work makes people assume you're some kind of paid MCPS plant. |
Thank you. I'm the 14:05 PP, and I am not an employee or a plant, just a regular MCPS parent. |
Well his ties to a lawyer says otherwise. Not false information. "Mr. Austin also started a nonprofit group, Montgomery County MD Neighbors for Local Schools (aka MoCo Neighbors for Local Schools), which is soliciting donations. Documents filed with the State of Maryland show that one of Mr. Austin’s two fellow board members in MoCO Neighbors is Zhenya Li of North Potomac. Ms. Li, an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump, is also chairperson of the Coalition for a Better Montgomery PAC and is its largest contributor. Mr. Austin is the only candidate endorsed by the PAC, which has donated $3,000 to his campaign. " So no we do not want a Trump supporter period. |
+1 that ^PP is at best ignorant, at worst just plain stupid. Again, this is ONE district, and students are not assigned to schools that have the same zip code as the home. |
| Steve Austin for BOE. I just decided after months of consideration. He is the smartest one and the one who will not bow down to the establishment. The others are just pawns. |
Please share your methodology for determining that he is "the smartest." |
IQ test? 129 or 139? |
I like what he has to say. He is good at crunching numbers and dissecting the mess the BOE has made. He'll make positive changes. |
Again, knowing about investments is not the same as knowing about budgets. If he's a good number cruncher, he can apply for a job as a data cruncher with MCPS. But he has zero experience in education, and never once volunteered for something that shows he cares about education. He's an investment guy so he cares about his property values, as most of us do, I'm sure. But nothing about his background tells me he cares about education. |
