Tomorrow is the vote on the "Motion to Proceed". This seems to be the linchpin, to convince Manchin, Murkowski and Collins to hold off on approving a "Motion to Proceed" until an FBI investigation can be undertaken in light of the allegations. They may also ask to hear from other witnesses.
This wouldn't mean they oppose Judge Kavanaugh on the merits. In effect, though, they stop the clock yet again while their conditions are met. The question then is whether the rest of the Republican caucus can bear to hold off and take the chance on what facts come to light out of such a probe. If McConnell cuts bait at that point, and the President immediately withdraws the Kavanaugh nomination and submits a new one, they could jam that through before the new Senate is seated on January 3. |
Yes, things are getting worse and worse for us. |
The GOP will just ram this through |
Anyone have a link to Leland's letter? |
Key states are Maine (Collins), Alaska (Murkowski), Indiana (Donnelly), and West Virginia (Manchin).
Everyone who is outraged should call these offices and encourage 10 voters from the respective states to call these offices. |
I now understand why the younger voters today are moving further and further to the left. Fight fire with fire. |
Good job Democratic Senator Leahy-pointing out the delays that had occurred for past nominees while they investigated more minor infractions like marijuana abuse. And for pointing out how no one has questioned Mark Judge, the sole eye witness. Simply outrageous. |
+1 And for pointing out that we've gone backwards after 20 years, because at least Anita Hill merited an investigation, while Judge Kavanaugh will advance without even that having occured. |
Manchin, Murkowski, Collins and Flake are all voting together. You have your answer on how this is going to play out as Flake just voted yes. |
It is incredibly naive to think it will do any good. Your time is better spent supporting viable Dems running in Nov. |
Vegas has been saying this all week. |
Yep! Kavanaugh was out of control and highly politicized. Dr. Ford had to keep her sh*t together yet Kavanaugh, Grassley, and Graham could completely lose control. |
I'm still recovering from the Yovino case out of LI. I believed her but now I feel terrible for those me |
men |
Yes of course! And it was naive to ever have thought otherwise. |
