Privileged kids, (not their fault), living in an insular environment, where there is no real hunger, war, safety issues, et al.

On one hand, a blessing, on the other hand, a curse?

While others worry about where they will get their next meal, some worry about how they stack up against the other girls, who has the cuter accessory, instagram photo, boyfriend, or - whatever.

Were there competitive, mean, teen girls taunting this poor soul, that she committed suicide? Hopefully the parents of those girls did not raise them that way. Did they put their foot down, or spoil them? Or are those parents themselves, spoiled, living in an insular environment, which cushy jobs, not worried about life, because it's so comfortable. And herein lies the rub. We take things for granted, we forget about values, about how to raise children, values that have stood for generations.

As long as noone goes hungry, people get comfortable, the problems become superficial. We start bickering about stupid stuff. We become so superficial, that maybe, just maybe, as we have heard in other cased, whether bullied or not, something superficial cause this poor soul to take her own life. A life that may just not have been steeped in reality.

God bless.

Shut up! SHUT UP! You don't know anything about this family or this girl. To speculate or insinuate that her family somehow failed her is cruel, untrue and exposes the exact nature of your soul. This is not about YOU and how you feel about how society is raising children. Start a new thread where YOU solve all the world's problems but leave THIS child and this family out of it.

We all carry some responsibility. Let's just be honest here.

Which posts are blaming parents?

That’s an interesting idea, but they couldn’t be hired by or work for the school system. Conflict of interest.

Parents and MCPS also need professional counseling services to stop creating the conditions for these problems.

Always look for the source of the issue,
not just where to put a bandaid.

What does this have to do with immigrant kids except people want to segregate? Two separate issues.
Nothing, I think the op was implying that there are always limited resources $$, so we shouldn’t be spending it to help immigrants.

Last month’s Bethesda magazine laid out page after page of amazing resources for newcomers including one program that administered a non-profit dental care in School. Maybe kids are picking up that magazine and seeing what is offered and easily accessible to some isn’t offered to others.

I bet those people in the community that loves and cares for their needs love School.

Can Bethesda Magazine share these resources on DCUM? Most people do not buy Bethesda Magazine.

I guess then the answer is more taxes for everyone, so that these things are funded? Perhaps more affordable health care for ordinary families so that they can get the mental health services that they need?

I haven't read this thread as it felt wrong and disrespectful for the grieving family. I only wanted to say that I just heard of a death of another Whitman student, this time not apparent suicide. Drunk driving is the story and then froze to death? My DD says there have been 5 to 7 deaths in recent weeks. The reason I posted now, is that it is no longer a case or two, it appears to be very, very heartbreaking. My DD is going to therapist on Tuesday, she asked to go. I just want to let everybody know that as parents we need to be careful and watchful more than ever. My heart breaks for families and the kids.

Thank you for posting. I just want to say that alcohol poisoning can also be suicide. It's impossible to know for sure what exactly was going on and why.

I hate how crazy busy everyone always seems to be.

This is so heartbreaking.my son says the word on social media is alcohol poisoning. But as PP said, it’s impossible to know. It just breaks my heart to think of him out in the cold all night. Just awful.
