The widow was too overcome with grief to hold the phone because she just found out the soldiers body was in such terrible condition that there could be no open casket funeral. Another soldier was holding the phone up to her ears and mouth so that she could talk into the phone.

Trump was the one who initially claimed he had proof he did not make such remarks and the White House had to deny it. He lies like a rug every day so why would it be different in this case?
