I mean we knew there are residency cheaters going to WSHS from neighborhoods zoned for Lewis or probably Annandale, so that isn’t surprising, but it is surprising that people would admit to it LOL. Even on an “anonymous” tool. |
I'm not sure I saw any comments that say that the West Hampton people are attending West Springfield. They do say that a lot go to private and they would like to be zoned to West Springfield. Can you copy the text that says they actually send their kids to WS? That would be a pretty dumb thing to say. |
Undoubtedly, FCPS should realize that they have a pariah on their hands in Lewis. Perhaps only Mt. Vernon and Herndon earn as much vitriol.
If they don't close it, the first things they should do: - Switch from IB to AP at Lewis. - Solidify and expand the Lewis language offerings (with tiny classes if necessary). - Put AAP in Key (if they have to keep middle school AAP). - Switch Saratoga from AAP at Lorton Station to AAP at Springfield Estates. That way all Lewis AAP kids get AAP in the pyramid. These are all things completely within control of the School Board and Superintendent and DON"T impact other pyramids. They should have been done years ago. |
100% agree with all of this |
Same here. Everything else about this boundary review has been sloppy, so why stop now? |
These endless comments are 99% against this boundary change. How are they even considering moving forward with county wide opposition?! And majority of families still don’t even realize this is in motion. |
Many are not vocal because they know their homes won’t get redistricted. Our home will not get moved, but I am paying attention to this issue because I think bus travel times should be reviewed. Traffic is a huge issue in Fairfax. Then there is road maintenance and air quality to keep in mind.

How do residency checks currently work ? With all the online open source tools it should be fairly easy to do checks through open source available information using student lists and then call those parents in for an in person meeting - so is that how the process works, or what is the current process ? Especially for single family homes in the Lewis/WSHS areas. Just curious because it doesn't look like it would be a heavy lift honestly. |
The arrogance of Michelle Reid and the School Board members is matched only by their stupidity. Their default mode is to blunder with no clear purpose or objective in mind, while somehow managing to convince themselves they are courageously making “tough decisions” when in fact they are only making bad ones. |
I only wished they knew how much more support they’d receive if they dropped the boundary review nonsense. I know there are constituents who are never going to support an all Democratic school board, but there are a lot of people who are middle of the road that are gettable, if only they’d drop the boundary review that pits constituent against constituent |
So what is your plan for over-crowded Chantilly HS and Coates ES? Who will attend the new HS next to Carson MS? What about the new construction in Tysons? Where will those kids go? What aboit kids with long commutes to their schools, when there is another one much closer? Should FCPS wait to make boundary changes one school at a time? That doesn’t seem reasonable. Nobody wants to move schools, but somebody has to. If the school system waits too long to do so, then they will get blamed too. In my view, they are being proactive. It’s a bit of a “damned if you, damned if you don’t situation”. |
They had a plan for the one urgent issue right now: Coates. Guess what, they shelved it for a year to wrap it into the broader study. So the urgent needs are sidelined by the comprehensive study. It’s exactly backwards. And as for your other points about intermediate term problems, there are solutions to be had that don’t involve large pyramid changes, many have been mentioned on this board. |
I think this is more disturbing than anything else FCPS has decided about BRAC. Someone posted about the trailer "outhouse" for many, many students. As for Chantilly, unless FCPS makes another disturbing decision, it should be resolved with KAA. |
The periodic one-off boundary changes driven by actual needs, rather than whatever they think are doing now, have been far more thoughtful than this county-wide mess. You are delusional if what you think they are doing now is “proactive.” Anyone who’s paid any real attention to the proposals know they are routinely trying to solve one “problem” such as an attendance island by creating another, such as a new split feeder, and doing so in ways that often will increase enrollment disparities between nearby schools and set themselves up for endless boundary changes in the future. There is large-scale resistance to these proposals and if they have any sense they will dial back and focus on the few situations such as Coates that warrant immediate relief. |
Agree 100%. It isn't and shouldn't be a laborious process in 2025, no matter what Reid and the SB claim. They don't want to address the issue so they pretend like the one person in charge of it at Central Office has to use the White Pages to look up every single student's address and then drive to each residence and speak to the occupants. |
