Why are Christians insisting the opening ceremony depicted The Last Supper when it really was the Feast of Dyonisus?

I've never seen a Last Supper with Dionysus on a platter in the middle of it, and 20-someodd Disciples. As a Christian and as someone who didn't sleep in class when they went over Greek mythology in like 7th grade, I would never be so confused as to think it was somehow supposed to be a depiction of the Last Supper.

These are peddlers of confusion we are talking about . Of course for plausible deniability it had elements of Greek mythology so that they can plausibly deny the blasphemy accusations afterward but those that are not deaf, dumb, or blind know the truth

It had EVERY element of a Dionysian Bacchanal and NO elements of the Last Supper other than people on one side of a table. So I guess from now on every time there are people on one side of a table, that's "Mocking the Last Supper." *facepalm*

Wait you guys need to get your story straight. Are they admitting it was about the last supper or denying it and falsely claiming it was Dionysus?

They will if they lose ratings and ad money over this which they are

France will lose ratings. I'm sure they're devastated. Maybe you can speak to their manager.

Everyone should protest by buying very expensive bottles of French wine and giving them to me. I’ll make sure they’re disposed of.

Send that poison French wine to me too. And they can also send me that disgusting Jamon de Bayonne, filthy Camembert, degenerate Crème de Marrons and some of those perverted croissants to go with it.

I was really surprised NBC didn't realize how "knowledge challenged" Americans are, and provide actual useful commentary about what was going on.

High level people in both France and Italy denounced the pageantry. This is not just an American thing.

As I have repeated several times and with links. But they have tunnel vision.

Sorry, I can't get that worked up over what happens in another country, unless it's something like invading other borders or massacre of the population. This is just entertainment, not something life or death. I can't believe your feelings are so fragile as to get foam-mouthed about it.

If you go back and see my rather lengthy post on page 10 you will where I stand. I actually wasn't offended - didn't even see it "live" - just pointing out the erroneous assumption of those stating that the crazy American Christians were the only ones offended, no more no less.

LOLOLOL. So then you admit it was Greek mythology. This whole dumb kerfluffle was over nothing.

That scene wasn’t about Christianity yall and the golden calf statue and four horsemen reference shown during the opening was definitely NOT Biblical mockery. It is a devotion to Frances love of ranchers and country westerns.

I know this because I studied art history in my sixth year of college after I changed my liberal arts major for the fourth time and took a gap year to save the Amazon

PSA: most Christians don’t care about this AT ALL. The vocal minority is a minority.

i can't follow this thread, are there right wingers who think Kamala planned the Olympics opening ceremony or something?

She did.

"Imagine a feast of the Gods. The gods feasting. The significance of the gods getting together and having dinner. They dine for a long time. The supper that lasts a long time."

Because of this no one noticed as they chanted Heil Hitler to Israeli athletes.

Well, in a nutshell, the answer to OP is that it isn't necessarily about the parody at all. It's about the relenting push to include a majority of (and in this case "only") LGBTQ or drag queens in mainstream media, but more importantly during an event such as the Olympics where unity and diversity are at its core. There was in IMHO an undertone of pushing their (LGBTQ and drag queens) agenda which is not what the Olympics are all about.

How is one segment among many “pushing” anything at all?
