Poll shows the debate only changed 7% of people's minds...

After the Trump-Biden debate, I watched the first Kennedy-Nixon debate on YouTube. It’s hard to believe we’ve fallen so far as a nation. Kennedy and Nixon were both well prepared, congenial, deferential and spoke directly to the camera without using notes. Contrast that with mush-for-brains Biden and five-hundred-word vocabulary lying sack of sh!t Trump.

Notwithstanding this, the race is still tight, meaning that a sizable percentage of people (~20%) are okay voting for someone they view as cognitively unfit to lead the free world.

This is interesting because I got the impression from DCUM that there was widespread ignorance about Biden’s... let's call it affect. DCUM has consistently expressed a belief that Biden is spry and mentally agile, particularly when compared to his opponent Trump. While some DCUMers have since acknowledged that they ignored the signs, many are committed to a belief that either Biden is okay, or that his cognitive health is irrelevant to his job performance. By the numbers, this means DCUM is basically inhabited by among the most committed and perhaps extreme supporters on the left.

When one side is a cult and the other isn't, of course you will see this kind of movement. YOu don't see ANY GOP bailing on Trump for his incessant lies or desire to be an autocrat.

Just wait until Biden's replacement suddenly has a commanding lead in the polls. You'll then see some regret from the GOP for foolishly nominating Trump for a third consecutive time but by then it will be too late for them to make a change. No one likes a guaranteed loser.

I'm putting exactly zero eggs into the "unnamed mystery candidate" basket

Said candidate does not exist. Said candidate needed to get his or her ass in gear A YEAR AGO.

They'll come out like ants after their pile has been stepped on once Biden's announces his plans to withdraw for the race. The announcement will serve as their permission to run. We just need one average candidate to squash Trump.

Name one replacement candidate who has won.

After the debate, the only question is why it's not Trump 99% Biden 1%.

Cause we want a democracy?? No one can seem to explain how Trump will win. Needs those suburbs in the swing states.

Trump is leading ALL the swing states. That's how he will likely win, no matter who the Dems run.

WRONG!! People aren't as stupid as you think they are. Put a competent candidate next to Trump and the majority in those states won't be duped into voting for Trump. People just need to be reminded of what a real POTUS candidate is next to Trump. Trump's MAGA idiots will vote for him no matter what. Everyone else is just waiting for a viable candidate to emerge.

2016 would beg to differ. The people were completely duped by "Butter Emails."

People genuinely did not like HRC. They resented how she had been anointed and the decks cleared by the party to make way for her.

Given the obsession over Trump and his protection, it's hypocritical for you to shrug off her emails. She clearly broke the law. And she also misclassified spending for the fake Steele dossier as campaign spending and received a fine for it while the Democrats turned Trump into a felony for the exact same action. Lol.

She still would have made a much better President than Trump. People let petty things cloud their judgement.

Switching horses mid-race has rarely, if ever, worked out well. And let's be honest, some of it may be genuine from Dems, but there is also a lot of fake concern trolling coming from the right wing which is grossly exaggerating Biden's supposed incapacitation. I actually heard someone here on DCUM say "vegetative" earlier today. FFS, the man is absolutely NOT "vegetative."

If republicans were so hot to see Biden drop out, they wouldn’t have an army of lawyers working to keep a new candidate off the ballot.
They are being loud with this threat, because they like the race as it is.

Yes we do. I have sat in total shock as Biden has limped toward election day, everyone declaring that he's totally fine. Those videos were cheap fakes! Trump's almost the same age! I thought, you know, do what yall want to do, but this substantially increases your risk of failure.

There are no more debates before the convention. Everything between here and then will be highly scripted. Witness Biden tottering out to make a statement after the SC decision yesterday and not taking any questions. The WH speech writers will feed him what he needs to say on the teleprompters at the occasional rally. There will be an illusion that Biden is a functional president and all is well. And they will count on Trump saying one asinine thing or another to keep distracting attention from how weak Biden is.

Groupthink will continue to settle in. Everything is fine. No Whitmer or Newsom will rock the boat. No billionaire will want to strain relationships, which are far more important for the donor class than what Party is in the White House. They're going to do fine regardless.

There will be no change. And Democrats will continue to sleepwalk into disaster.

It's all staged; Biden will be replaced on the ticket. That was the purpose of holding the debate so early. The more prominent Dems had to support Biden initially lest the public assume that they are involved with the effort to sideline him. Then, they will shift to saying they support Biden personally but are concerned that the American people seem to be having doubts. Finally, they will say that as much as they support Biden personally, the will of the American people needs to be done and Biden should be replaced. They keep their hands clean and underlings execute the plan under the radar, same as usual.

Umm those with hopes of Trump winning are hoping Biden stays in the race because Biden is one of the few people on Earth Trump can beat. Are you familiar with Trump and is awfulness? Trump has restrained himself from criticizing Biden since last week's debate for this reason.

Yes, Trump is awful. But again, you are underestimating how many entrenched/delusional/denialistic people there are who will vote for Trump no matter what the Democrats come up with.

Yes, we know those people and there aren't enough of them to elect Trump without the help of the swing/independent voters.

How will Trump win these people? None of this makes any sense. All of his/Rs platforms are terrible. Trump is not an unknown and was a total disaster before.

This in insane that we have to deal with Trump for a third election in a row. It’s too much misery.
