Now That Iran Has Retaliated Against Israel?

I’m a liberal Democrat and I support Israel.

You do realize Israel is being run by a rightwing party that in order to reach a majority of votes in the Knesset has to ally itself with ultra right wing extremist factions? I support Israel when they are led by central or leftist coalition like Yizthak Rabin who won the Nobel Peace prize and was assassinated in 1995 by a ultra right wing sympathizer who opposed peace.

Supporting Israel leadership now is like supporting Trump and the J6 lunatics. And that is probably an understatement. In order to get elected Netanyahu formed a coalition with an ultra right wing extremists and including Itamar Ben-Gvir who Netanyahu appointed as Security Minister. He was so radical as a teen the Israeli Defense Force refused to conscript him. The New Yorker reported a year ago, "While Ben-Gvir’s old high-school classmates served in the Israel Defense Forces, he stayed at the yeshiva, absorbing extremist ideas. The Army had refused to conscript him. “There are only very few that we don’t recruit,” a former senior defense official told me. Why not Ben-Gvir? I asked. The official stared at me and said, “Give someone like that a weapon?” And now he is the Security Minister of Israel.

The New Yorker reported over a year ago when Netanyahu was elected "Late last year, as Israel swore in the most right-wing government in its history, a despairing joke circulated online. A picture broken into squares to resemble a captcha—the test designed to tell you from a robot—depicted the members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet. The caption read, “Select the squares in which people who have been indicted appear.” The correct answer involved half of them." The article continues "Ben-Gvir, who is forty-six, has been convicted on at least eight charges, including supporting a terrorist organization and incitement to racism, compiling a criminal record so long that, when he appeared before a judge, “we had to change the ink on the printer,” Dvir Kariv, a former official in the Shin Bet intelligence agency, told me. As recently as last October, Netanyahu refused to share a stage with him, or even to be seen with him in photographs. But a series of disappointing elections persuaded Netanyahu to change his mind."

So because I am liberal I do NOT support the current rulers of Israel because I am anti right wing and anti-intolerance. This is also why I don't understand why so many liberals support Hamas. Both Palestine and Israel are being run by ultra intolerant parties so I don't think the US should be supporting either group right now.

Not the person you are responding too, but I am a politically homeless person at this point, but tend to lean more left and even progressive on some issues. Not a supporter of Netanyahu at all and I think he's corrupt, but I absolutely support Israel right now and I think it's dangerous for our future here in the US if we don't.

It is dangerous for US if Israel is destroyed.

This. Fortunately, if you look at recent surveys, DCUM does not reflect most of the US regarding Israel. Jordan understands the need to support Israel in the fight against Iran. The UAE knows Israel is an important ally.

If you have to ask why, I suggest you go to a library and read some history books.

I think a lot of the demonization of Israel comes from radicals using taqiyya to indoctrinate their own, but also indoctrinate progressives who don't understand this concept and how acceptable it is to lie, spread propaganda, distort truth in order to advance extremist agendas.

Oh you must be smoking so good stuff. Israel support is all astroturf and non existent with 98% of the country. Why would any country want to ally with Israel?

Or it could be people are just tired of the constant fighting? Long history of grievances from both sides. There will never be peace.

Are you talking about the hospitals and schools in Gaza which have already been shown to have HAMAS terrorists and weapons. Have you read the articles and seen the interviews with captured terrorists. This is fact, not hypothesis.

Yeah, those premature babies were obviously terrorists. It’s a good thing they’re dead now. /s

Obviously nobody is saying the babies are terrorists, but it is fact that terrorists were using hospitals. This has actually been known for years, though there has been plenty of recent news. Hamas chooses to use innocent children as human shields. I am outraged to see any innocent child die too and I put blame where it belongs on HAMAS a terrorist organization that gets considerable support from Iran and Qatar.

So soldiers can go in and take the risk, to separate babies from bad guys,

You don’t shoot (bomb) first and seek forgiveness later.

Iran where there is no religious freedom, few rights for women, people are executed for being gay or perceived as contrary to the Muslim theocracy.

Israel under Netanyahu is not perfect - he’ll no. But women, Arabs, LGBTQ+ people are protected. Those saying “apartheid state” have no factual understanding of Israel and also no concern for the fact that Israel has been under constant attack from terrorist organizations and countries that want its demise - and often explicitly state their desire to eradicated Jews from the world as did Hamas in its charter until 2017.

These are the terrorist groups so many are standing up for.

You have no factual understanding of who is running Israel right now. Women, Arabs and LGBTQ people are at risk right now in Israel because of the crazy right wing extremists who are in power. Netanyahu has allied himself with extremists because his party couldn't come up with a majority of 61 seats in the Knesset. The Religious Zionism Coalition want Israeli Arabs to emigrate, oppose women serving in the IDF, and one prominent leader said he was a "proud homophobe" and the party leaders say things like doctors shouldn't have to provide medical treatment to gays. They are also against non -Orthodox Jews. So it is absolutely ironic that they would not support the majority of Jewish Americans because the vast majority of Jewish American are not Orthodox.

Israel can choose who they want to elect but those elections should have consequences. We should not be sending money to Israel when they elect extremists. Maybe that would influence who Israeli's vote for. Vote for centrists and the money and protection should flow, vote for ultra right wing extremists or have a ruling party that allies itself with the ultra right wing and the money and protection gets cut off.

They are used as human shields. Release the hostages and dismantle Hamas and this all could have been avoided. Also, these children are being indoctrinated to be terrorists as soon as they talk. It's child abuse. War is awful and nobody wants to see babies die, but the blame falls on Hamas.
