Gov. Pritzker Signs Legislation Further Establishing Illinois as the Most Welcoming State in the Nation
Press Release - Monday, August 02, 2021

Issues Executive Order Establishing the Welcoming Illinois Office

Four New Bills Further Expand Protections for Immigrant and Refugee Communities

AURORA - Governor JB Pritzker today signed HB 121, SB 667, SB 1596 and SB 2665 into law, legislation expanding protections for immigrant and refugee communities and further establishing Illinois as the most welcoming state in the nation. The new laws strengthen the TRUST Act and make Illinois the second state in the nation to require local officials to end partnerships with ICE, address hate crimes against immigrant communities, expand workplace protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, and create the Illinois Immigration Impact Task Force to ensure state programs and policies best serve immigrant residents.

Illinois is still a welcoming state, but it doesn't want migrants from Latin America to come to freezing Chicago in the winter where they could die because they don't have warm clothing, and Chicago doesn't have warm places for them to sleep.

Where do the good people of Illinois think the migrants should go? Just stay in Texas and southern states?

Out of sight, out of mind - anywhere but in their backyard. Which is why this is so effective. Finally, Democrats are waking up to reality on the border.

Surely the good people of the sanctuary cities that have sanctuary policies will take them and give them shelter. It won’t be long before they will be forcing the citizens to house them. One place cancelled school to house illegal aliens

Not forcing, yet. But asking citizens to house them.....

Yeah, out in the open in sub-zero weather. Great idea maggot!!
It's 60 degrees in Aztec Stadium, Mexico City right now.

Human beings are not illegal.
These are immigrants, most of whom have crossed the border legally. Some may have crossed without documentation, but that does not make these human beings "illegal."
Have you ever gotten a parking ticket? Overstaying your parking is illegal -- are you an "illegal" because of your illegal action?
False. Their claim of asylum was met when they crossed into Mexico and probably before that if they came from even farther south. I'm all for legal immigration and believe we should allow more people in. But pretending these are legitimate asylum cases and renaming "illegal aliens" to "migrants" is simply political gamesmanship.

Why should Texas and other states on the frontlines deal alone with the burden of undocumented immigrants and the effects of failed national immigration policy? It’s perfectly fair to share the burden. Let Chicago, NYC, and other blue cities deal with it just as they expected El Paso, Laredo, and Brownsville to deal with it.

Another liberal here who is the daughter and wife of immigrants, and is typically pro-immigration - and I totally agree with you. This is a huge problem and we can't underestimate the burden this puts on border states like Texas. However, Abbott would get a lot more support if he coordinated and tried to cooperate with blue cities and states to take migrants in. "Hey, I have three busloads that have family in Chicago and want to go there, will there be support waiting for them if they leave on Thursday?" Then, if Pritzker says no, we can't handle them, everyone will see him as the hypocrate he is.

I'm a Chicago native who lived for several years in Texas. Perhaps I'm naive to think that states should be working together here since the Feds seem to be doing nothing about this problem. Blue states and cities should absolutely be stepping up to the plate here.

Why do you put the immigration problem and policy failures on the feet of Democrats when Republicans - in the majority in the house and nearly in the Senate - have done NOTHING to meaningfully address reform? Even basic things like requiring e-verify for employers …. Republicans could easily make this happen but they don’t. So you’re going to have to explain to me what Republican are doing to solve the problem and why you are blaming Democrats as a default.

You do realize requiring e-Verify is a big part of HR-2, right? Try educating yourself. Democrats are the ones holding up this bill.

E-verify can be required at the state level. Florida tried it and saw labor costs skyrocket. No other conservative state has followed suit

This is incorrect:

They are illegal aliens, that’s the official government name. They are breaking the law by being an alien in the US who has skirted our laws and policies. 75% don’t qualify for asylum

The forcing will happen. And it won’t be the rich Democrat and the WWW’s hosting them. They’ll force the middle class and lower Middle class. And those who don’t will have their property seized via eminent domain

So insane. Pay your bills; pay your taxes, and use your money to house families the government is letting in, and again: you are paying the costs of living for them.
This is wrong and must end.

“Healey also reiterated her pleas to press the federal government for more aid, including a larger group shelter setting that would ease some of the burden on the shelter system, more equitable distribution of federal dollars among states and expedited work permits for migrants — particularly Haitians, who make up a large share of those in the shelter system.

“This again affirms my call to the Biden administration,” Healey said. “I think they know and understand clearly what it is that we are seeking and those discussions are continuing. I’m hopeful that they will result in action soon for our state. But in the meantime we can’t wait.”

Healey’s warning comes days after federal Homeland Security officials visited the state to assess the migrant situation and meet with senior members of the governor’s team, state and local officials and service providers.

The number of families in the state’s emergency shelter system has doubled in the past year to nearly 7,000 — or just over 23,000 individuals, about half of which the state estimates are migrants. And more are coming each day.

With traditional shelter settings long full, Healey declared a state of emergency in August and the state has for months been placing migrants and homeless families in hotels, motels and college dormitories in some 90 communities across the state.

“State and local budgets can only stretch so far,” Healey said. “It’s time for the federal government to step up and do the job that we need them to do.”

And frustrations with the Biden administration’s response — or lack thereof — to the deluge of migrants overwhelming Massachusetts and other Democratic strongholds have begun to outweigh the potential political consequences of publicly berating the president. Healey, a member of President Joe Biden’s national campaign advisory board, no longer resists calling out what she views as insufficient action from his administration. Massachusetts House Speaker, Ron Mariano, publicly ripped the president earlier this month, saying Biden “better start paying attention to this.”

NEW: An illegal immigrant from Haiti charged with raping a developmentally disabled person in Boston was released from jail into the community after the sanctuary jurisdiction in Dorchester refused to honor ICE’s detainer request. ICE in Boston just found & rearrested him, and they call the local decision to release him without notice “disturbing”.

ICE statement: “Disturbingly and despite our filing an immigration detainer, this individual was released back into the community by the criminal court. The men and women of ERO Boston continue to protect the community from those who pose a real public safety threat to our communities.”

Background: The Haitian man first arrived at a port of entry in Brownsville, TX in December 2022, where he was deemed inadmissible & released into the U.S. with a future court date.
In September 2023, Boston police arrested him for rape and indecent assault and battery on a disabled person. ICE filed a detainer request with local authorities in Dorchester, seeking his custody, but the request was ignored, and the alleged rapist was released into the community in November. ICE found & rearrested him a little over a week ago.

ERO conducts removals of individuals without a lawful basis to remain in the United States, including at the order of immigration judges with the DOJ’s EOIR. EOIR is a separate entity from the Department of Homeland Security and ICE.

In fiscal year 2023, ERO made 170,590 administrative arrests, a 19.5% increase over the previous year. ERO arrested 73,822 noncitizens with a criminal history; those arrested had an average of 4 charges and convictions per individual, including more than 33,209 charges or convictions for assault, 7,520 for weapons offenses, 1,713 for homicide-related offenses, and 1,615 for kidnapping. Removals also included 3,406 known or suspected gang members, 139 known or suspected terrorists, seven human rights violators, and 108 foreign fugitives wanted by their governments for crimes including homicide, rape, terrorism and kidnapping. Also in fiscal year 2023, ERO conducted 142,580 removals to more than 170 countries worldwide.

This is unbelievable.

Honest question. If someone is deemed inadmissible at the border (place of entry), how are they then allowed entry anyway?

You are joking, right? If you are serious, I suggest you should take a trip to Texas and see it for yourself.

That didn't answer my question did it? Border patrol says to the person "you can't come in" and then moves aside?
