That isn't a historically accurate answer and the fact you think it is means you were indoctrinated with an opinion not based on facts. Literally look at the state secession order for South Carolina. Line 1: Slavery. |
|
Even better, "do you acknowledge that South Carolina started the Civil War so that the white people of the state could continue to own other people?" |
You misunderstood. Haley implied that she was tripped up by an unfair question. So now that she has had a day to think about it, if asked again I’m sure *this time* she will provide the historically accurate answer, right? If reporters kept at this, they could really make Haley squirm. |
| As another poster pointed out, Haley was the first governor of SC to remove the confederate flag from the statehouse. Obviously she is on the right side of history, and anyone with half a brain would acknowledge that. |
Which I guess implies something about Haley’s brain |

It was a temporary moment in time after a white punk had murdered black church ladies in Charleston when changing the state flag had majority support in South Carolina if a Republican did it. She had permission from her donors to pretend to give a shit, at least symbolically. |
She understands the republican base quite well. She’s not going to say something they don’t want to hear. |
Wasn’t this after an AA activist climbed the flagpole at the state house and took it down herself? |
Uh, nope. https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/confederate-flag-furor/gov-haley-sign-bill-removing-confederate-flag-n389231 |
| The Haley debacle is a real demonstration of the fact that the current (MAGA) Republican Party is a reconstitution of the Confederacy. |
|
Well, there goes Haley as the reasonable alternative.
Such a stupid, cynical, bloviating, politician response. So Biden-Trump it is. Haley is a little background noise for another month or two, and then goodbye. Had a chance to stand up for some basic human principles - slavery not great, nearly destroyed the country - and completely flubbed it. I live in hope that Christie is the last one standing now. And maybe, maybe... |
| This Civil War response to me doesn’t sound like something she can bounce back from. Coming from SC and being a Republican, she will not get the benefit of the doubt of her response. |
Uh, yes it was. PP was correct. Bree Newsome climbed the flagpole outside the stage house on June 27, 2015 and removed the confederate flag by hand that then Gov Haley agreed that the flag should come down (after much publicity of the event). Haley wasn’t some visionary who made the decision on her own. She only signed that bill in July, 2015 after the Charleston shooting and Newsome’s climbing after massive outrage and political pressure. I am stunned people don’t remember this. It was only 8 years ago. https://www.cnn.com/2015/06/27/politics/south-carolina-confederate-flag/index.html#:~:text=Dressed%20in%20climbing%20gear%20and,emblem's%20place%20in%20modern%20America. |
This would be false, as the vast majority of whites didn't own any slaves and that, even more telling, some blacks did. Some of you are as ignorant as Haley herself. |
