The older girls were groomed by Kate to be mini-parents to the younger kids and she groomed them to hate their dad.

She really is Kate 2.0 which is not good for her at all.

Agree that her statement was not a good look. My guess is Kate used her to help dole out punishment and she is trying to rationalize. Kate is the true monster who literally had her kid sent away and didn’t even visit. I remember her saying they were not sure of his diagnosis. and my guess is there wasn’t some awful thing so she made stuff up. I feel bad for Colin but he has turned out okay. He is very mature in his interviews. Hannah is so sweet-I imagine it was hard for her to walk away and she is trying to bring everyone together.

That's a lot of guessing and assuming. Her message was clear. She and some of the siblings identify as LGBTQ+ and Collin has made hateful comments and been violent. If there's not a good look its for Collin. Has he denied it yet? Maybe that's who he is. Not a good look for him or his supporters.

Still lots questions, because none of them have seen him since he was 12, and they apparently haven't spoken since he was institutionalized. Is Mady referring to things he said at age 12? That seems a bit extreme. If this is more recent, how was he making the comments and threatening them if they are no contact? And why is Hannah ok with being around Collin if he was so violent to them all? Idk, the timeline is confusing. Also, let's not pretend Mady is perfect. The show is FULL of her beating on her siblings and being mean and hateful to them. Not just when she was little, but also during the later filmings of Kate+8 where she was a pre-teen/teen. She was awful.

Also, Jon's ex-girlfriend's kids are Black and one of them is gay. At some point, all of them were living together. Not sure if Collin still has a relationship with the kids, but he definitely does with Colleen. On his graduation IG post, he shouted Colleen out and she commented a very loving message back. Seems odd, if Collin is so racist and hateful, that Colleen would still want a relationship with him.

Nobody is pretending anyone is perfect. But Mady made some pretty damning allegations. If they aren't true they why isn't Collin speaking out and threatening to sue? And I think it's clear Mady isn't only talking about race so Colleen's support isn't necessarily relevant. People just seem to want to discount any evidence that challenges their preconceived notion of Kate = evil, Collin = sweet angel. There is a lot we probably don't know and the older the kids get the more we'll find out.

They are mother and child - not two equally situated parties. *Many* people on her have acknowledged that Collin likely had challenging behaviors. That doesn’t justify abuse. Unless someone can demonstrate to me that he is seriously dangerous or mentally ill, the facts still show that Kate purposefully got rid of him by sending him to long-term inpatient therapy that was all out of proportion with his condition- and then purposefully isolated him there by refusing to visit and keeping the child’s own father away. We have documented evidence of Kate rejecting and mistreating Collin from a young age. This was the culmination. Whatever supposed insults or fights he engaged in recently with Mady have nothing to do with this history.

You're not going to get someone's medical history as evidence. The family seems pretty tight lipped about what issues Collin has. He has been kicked out of schools, accepted into an institution, and accused of violence and hateful statements, those are also facts. If Kate was protecting the kids from him, it's hard to fault that. How many survivors of abuse wished their parents did that? We don't have the full story, but you're pretending that you somehow have all the facts from a scripted reality show.

You don’t protect your other kids by sending one child inappropriately to an institution, isolating him, and keeping him away from his other parent. Collin may have needed supports but Kate chose a harsh and ostracizing approach.

That it was inappropriate is an opinion, not a fact.

Kids don’t get sent away for 3 years with the kind of minor issues Collin has. The fact that Kate never visited and blocked his dad from taking custody or even knowing where he was strongly reinforces that Kate wanted to get rid of Collin.

Right, they don't. So the obvious conclusion is there's more going on. Not that everyone is joining forces with Kate like family court, schools, CPS, mental health institutions, the other kids, just to be super mean to Collin. I mean, come on. Why would everyone do that?

Collin was never subject to a court order to be institutionalized. When Kate was finally forced to let Jon be a parent, he readily got Collin out and graduated from a mainstream HS. This is not a picture of a kid who needed to be sent away at 12.

Whatever. Kate had full custody of the kids. Jon was an absentee dad. Also he was accused by Collin of beating him. Cops were called, investigation launched, nothing happened. Also like the claims Collin made against Kate. CYS notified, investigation launched, nothing happened. Seems like Collin is a troubled teen who likely tells lies. This isn't just a little ADHD.

Is Hannah a liar too? When Kate tried to pull her out of Jon's car so hard an ambulance was called- what's up with that?

Do you know people who have abused their kids? I do. When the cops are called and abuse is found the parents are arrested, there are restraining orders, criminal charges filed, and the kids go into foster care. Somehow that never seems to be happening. The police are involved in these cases yet never arrest Jon and Kate. What does that tell you?

I've worked in child welfare. It's very rare to have restraining orders and criminal charges. Be real.

Nobody ever said he didn’t have ADHD. Normal moms don’t send kids away for ADHD or some lies. Jon went and got him so at the end of the day, he’s the better parent. As soon as he was able to get custody he did.

Do better parents punch their kids and repeatedly kick them in the ribs? Collin said Jon did.

He probably did something wrong, got punished and made claims to get a reaction and attention. Remember he was in an institution for 3 years and not a regular home. Jon was cleared of it.

And? For all the abuse Collin supposedly suffered none of these things have happened. Either you're saying everyone is looking the other way and not doing their job because we don't protect kids from violently abusive parents, or perhaps they concluded that what Collin said happened didn't happen.

Actually, sometimes you do have to do that. None of us will ever know if that was the case here.

No, no good parent sends their 11-12 year away and never visits, and hides them from their other parent, then drops the custody battle when the truth is going to come out.

+1 My daughter attended residential at 13. It was heartbreaking and difficult and I won't judge. But to do it for YEARS, and not visit, is never ever acceptable. It makes treatment futile, for one, because a (the?) key component of any halfway decent residential program is family involvement and addressing the home systems.

Exactly. Even my super sh*tty parents visited my 13 year old brother in residential. And only kept him there for a short time and then sent him to relatives. Years in residential is just…

100%. It had to be frustrating for him to see kids around him get out or at least have their families visit and support them. This is part of why there was no money left for the kids to go to college.

Kate response rings hollow to me. If Collin is so violent he would have been kicked out of HS. He would have attacked Colleen, or is she saying he is only violent towards family? Mady said he is a racist and homophobe and Kate says he has severe mental illness. Something is not adding up.

And he had issues in a regular home. The problem might be.... Collin. Not that everyone around him is out to get him.

Overall he did very well with Jon. He probably needed more attention. Growing up with one parent and nannies and film crew is not exactly a loving and stable childhood so of course he had issues. Then, he was locked away without family contact for three years. Those places are ripe for abuse especially without an involved parent. So, of course the transition back to Jon and regular school and life was hard and will have ups and downs but he clearly was a better parent for those kids than she was. What kind of parent locks up a child for three years, doesn't visit and hides them from the other parent?

Being institutionalized for three years can do great harm to your mental health.

Kate should really be thanking Colleen for parenting her son when she choose to institutionalize him instead of parenting him; instead she is of spouting off about how is severely mentally ill. She don’t know anything about this boy and have had no relationship with him for 7 years. Jon and Collin have both thanked Colleen for all she did for them, seems to have been a positive influence on Collin.

Colleen is still in his life. Kate is a monster. Grooming your kids to hate a brother you haven’t seen is repulsive. I feel like it is one of the stories you see on the news where the one kid is locked in a room and the others are left alone.

I struggle to understand how anyone can fail to see what a monstrous narcissist Kate is. Of course ALL of her kids are messed up; just wait for their lives to unfold and you will likely see it. Even if you don’t, I predict substance use disorder and/or mental health struggles will be present in all of those kids as they age into midlife. Childhood trauma lasts for years but many outrun it in early adulthood until the stresses of life accumulate.

What is also sad is these kids didn't benefit at all from the tv show, not even college paid for.
