Waitlisted at TJ - now what?

(Based on what others have been reporting here, it seems that the number of rescinded offers was relatively small but not non-zero, i.e. there were indeed people who checked yes to the free meals questions, were admitted, did not have verification of eligibility for free meals, lost the experience factor points, and were unadmitted.) They have not yet filled the spots of admitted students who declined their offers of admission, but expect to do so this week, perhaps in the next couple of days. They anticipate 1-2 more rounds of admissions from the waitpool after this week.

I don't have any proof of this, of course, so the "Source?" posters may feel free to disbelieve me.

#fakenews

I'm the PP who posted this news, which is not at all fake. My child got in off the wait list yesterday as did others.

Maybe the slots opened up for reasons having nothing to do with the verification of FARMS eligibility. Some kids might just be deciding upon reflection that they’d rather attend base schools with less drama and sniping.

There have been three rounds of offers to date:

1. The original admissions, on May 20
2. Offers to replace those from (1) who lost their slots due to lack of FARMS verification, on June 17
3. Offers to replace those from (1) who declined their offers, on June 28

Some of (3) will decline their offers, resulting in a 4th round of offers. Some of (4) may decline their offers, resulting in a 5th round of offers. (Last year, there were three rounds of declined offers resulting in offers from the waitpool, and TJ anticipates that the same may transpire this year.)

Is there a waitlist where students are already ranked or is it a waitpool where they reevaluate and pick?

Exactly.

But the likely answer was they opened up to fill the many spots vacant by the cheaters.

TJ sent out request to say whether you wish to stay in the waitpool, with a due date in July.

Is this a new email? I received no email from TJ admission since May.

It was seen in the portal about a week ago.

I didn't see anything I need to do in terms of remaining in wait pool. All the selections remained checked.

All these slots opened up because there were so many cheaters booted from the list.

The number of economically disadvantaged changed between the May 25, 2022 Washington Post article (33% or 182 kids) and the FCPS June 20th release (21% or 116 kids) is 66. Some of the kids who were originally in due to checking the free meals boxes probably stayed admitted even with that experience factor removed.

One interesting detail from the FCPS press release - they do not state the total number of kids admitted to the class of 2026. This is likely intentional and they are still trying to figure out the Free Meals mess, including potential lawsuits. They may be reserving seats to see how this shakes out. The waitlist could still see A LOT of movement.
