I'm the first poster who was asked if I was related to him. No, I'm not related to him. I an immigrant myself, who speaks with an accent and in spite of his racism, I feel sorry for him since he was upset that his son could have died. He made a bad judgement but did not deserve to go viral and lose his job over this. Those kids were not heroes that others are making them out to be. |
Parent with a preteen girl |
+1 This. |
| Has Robek's released a statement? |
Those kids made a mistake, otherwise his kid would not be in the hospital. The girl said in the interview that she was not sure if someone added peanut butter. Kids are liars and I bet they made a mistake and were covering themselves. He asked for no peanut butter, but he did get peanut butter in it if his son landed up in the hospital after 2 epi-pen shots. And no, I am not related to him. |
I'm curious too. I hope these teens were also fired for putting peanut butter in the smoothie. They deserve to be fired for negligence too. |
A spokesperson for Robeks released a statement about the incident saying: "At Robeks, our priority is to protect both store team members and guests. The company and its franchisees have a zero-tolerance policy for this type of behavior, and we are thankful that the franchisee’s team members were not physically hurt. We appreciate the swift action by law enforcement and the judicial system in pursuing criminal charges for this unacceptable behavior." https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/man-throws-things-at-fairfield-robeks-employees-after-son-has-allergic-reaction-to-smoothie-pd/2697114/ |
| Male rage has zero place in society. His reaction was inexcusable and totally unnecessary. |

My dad had life-threatening allergies and suffered an allergic reaction that eventually led to his death after eating food prepared at a cafe that he went to every day. Very different situation, obviously, but it literally never occurred to me or my siblings to go to the cafe and berate or attack the workers. For one, we were too busy worrying about our dad.
This guy is unstable and dangerous, and it's totally appropriate that his unhinged behavior has impacted his employment. How many people want to take financial advice from a guy who goes after young kids working at a smoothie shop? |
They're never going to be able to prove whether there was cross-contamination or actual peanut butter in the smoothie. That is why allergy parents keep saying that they don't trust these places under the best of circumstances because the entire store and equipment has the potential to be contaminated with nut debris or residue. It is simply not safe for highly allergic people, and I cannot for the life of me grasp how any parent would think that was an acceptable risk to take. Like you, James Ianazzo is trying to pin the blame for his awful behavior on other people. |
You don't fire an employee for making something incorrectly. The customer asks for it to be remade or not charged for the item when the customer notices the the mistake. Pretty common issue and why many with severe allergies don't eat out. |
Dream on. They made an honest mistake if they did. If your kid is deathly allergic to peanuts be a responsible parent and don’t buy food at a place that serves peanuts. It’s not rocket science. |
Exactly! My kid and I have food allergies, we do not go to Robeks because of cross contamination. He is totally out of line! |
Yeah not buying it. No one is claiming they are heroes only that he has anger issues and deserves everything that is happening to him. When you see him tonight tell him it will be ok. You still love him. |
