She said they weren't vaccinated because she wasn't sure it was safe. I gave her an earful. She said she would consider if when they got some spare cash.

That's right. She didn't know it was free to get vaccinated.

You can blame my friend for her ignorance. I'm sure most of you would. I blame myself for not reaching out sooner. But mostly I blame our community for being so siloed that some people never even get the information they need. This is a woman whose eyesight is failing. She doesn't own a computer. She lives in an apartment complex with hundreds of people and apparently no one even bothered to do outreach to them. The pharmacy within walking distance doesn't do vaccines. Etc.

I'm driving her to a vaccination site this weekend. But this breaks me. How are we failing so many Americans like this? I get the reopener's perspective: they just want people like my friend to disappear.

Btw, before the xenophobic anti-immigrants chime in: her family has been in the US longer than yours.

she doesn't have a tv or radio? Or go to church or have other friends/family who could tell her that it's free?

Same boat, but I’m really glad they’re at least reconsidering. Better than another 10 days of virtual.

I don't live her life. I have a TV and radio and I've never heard them say it's free. I know from my own experience booking at booster at CVS it demanded insurance information, then told me if I didn't have insurance I could still get vaccinated, but when I filled out the form online it kept asking me for instance information. (We have insurance and CVS had the information, but eventually I made our appointments as uninsured people because the website kept rejecting the information.) I powered through with this because I am a belligerent Karen with the arrogance to assume that something I think should be free will be. I suspect my friend, when confronted with a similar puzzle, did not.

(Btw, I also straighted out our insurance with CVS when I got the boosters)

I will share one more thing. My friend took her daughter to her pediatrician who offered to vaccinate them. When she said she wasn't sure the pediatrician very politely told her that was fine, and if she changed her mind she could always come back. That was *all* they said.

That seems like a gross deriliction of duty.

I don't think a lot of you realize how much damage the fake information floods have done to our country.

We are literally in this predicament because of false information. So many dead Americans bc masks don’t work and vaccines are helping bill gates track us. I’m so tired. I honestly don’t know how the fully vaxxed snd boosted people continue to spew this false in. It’s unconscionable.

Wow. This is the silliest take in a thread full of bad takes (on both sides). You win (I guess?)

Exactly 4 kids ages 0-9 died in Maryland since March 2020. Even if the reopeners wanted anyone to disappear, practically speaking it is not going to happen. We are just flattening out with the omicron wave and slowing down with hospital admissions. There are a total of 60 kids hospitalized in the entire state, and only 12 of them are in the ICU.

Well, as long as kids who are 0-9 don't mind being orphaned I guess they will be fine.

The rate of death during this wave is a lot smaller than any previous wave. In addition, the majority of hospitalized are unvaccinated. But I know that you don’t care about facts. You are impervious to new information, kinda like the “the election was stolen” crowd.

Glad you're comfortable about making dead and hospitalized children jokes. It will help others see what you really are when you do a freudian slip at work.

That doesn't make them subhuman.

I bet you have a "black lives matter" sign on your lawn.
