Aaaaaand we already have a Covid case in ACPS

Yeah, that’s going to happen. COVID isn’t going anywhere. What’s the plan? You want to hide under your bed for the next 50 years?

It's someone's child. Empathy much?

Given how quickly covid delta spreads it won't be just one. Also, viruses mutate, but you keep spewing your garbage.

+1

How do you know it’s a child?

Bid effin deal. One case. Did you seriously expect there to be none? If you did you’re delusional. Or stupid.

There were four or five of these at our school in the spring. No spread. Don't be like Margaret Lorber.

I have accepted there will be cases - kids have not been living like hermits for some time and have been playing sports, traveling, eating indoors at restaurants, and seeing relatives. It is inevitable that there will be cases and possibly outbreaks.

But I appreciated OP posting the information. OP was highlighting that this isn't an auspicious start given that staff are not required to be vaccinated and there is no screening to catch presymptomatic individuals before they spend days sharing airspace in a classroom. The science is still out on whether kids spread Delta to other kids more than with the original strain, but we do know that Delta is significantly more transmissible and ACPS should not be heading into the new school year taking fewer precautions than in the spring (in the spring there was physical distancing and smaller cohorts).

So, not testing the whole class? What a crock of dangerous BS.

No, actually, there weren't four or five of these at your school in the spring. The delta variant was not at your school in the spring. The delta variant is a bit of a glutton. It won't infect four or five independently. If those four or five had been delta, you'd have had a forkton more. And this classroom with the one, most likely has the three or four, or the however many more. Maybe it's exactly three, one with hands on his eyes, the next on his ear and the third on his mouth to symbolize don't test don't tell?

"Hutchings added that he’s been talking regularly with all the superintendents around the northern Virginia area.

'We come together as well to have discussion around health and safety mitigation and any kinds of pivots we need to do within our school environment,' he said"

So, more temperature checks and more vigilant monitoring for proper mask usage. The hallmark of this virus is its remarkable ability to spread via asymptomatic people. Well, let's hope he keeps talking with the other local superintendents and pivot on vaccinations and testing as they have.

Where does the letter say Delta variant? How do you know it's delta variant?

What makes you think the patient is a child?

Imagine an unvaccinated asymptomatic teacher wearing a surgical mask and working with unvaccinated kiddos around a small reading group table for several days in a row. Is this a good idea?

Even Kansas City's school district is requiring vaccinations or weekly testing for all staff.

Are you going to wait to be contacted, or will you get your child tested, or test them yourself with a $10 supermarket rapid test?

Virtually all covid today in the DMV is delta. Come on. That's weak as derailing tangential nitpicking goes.

Seriously. Are people going to post and freak out every time we have a Covid case? Please don’t.

This and I am bewildered as to why the city and the school board STILL have not required city and school employees to be vaccinated, LIKE EVERYWHERE ELSE. Alexandria city council, the mayor and the school board LOVE to do anything that is uber liberal, anything. Yes, I live in Alexandria for over 20 years and I’m a Democrat but the politics here have gone in a downward spiral (the vaccine equity, the Hutchings’ many anti parent tirades, bike lanes, guaranteed income program, etc). Wilson would go to the opening of an envelope if it meant he got his name in the paper. But the refusal of the city to require employees to get vaccinated (when Northam already required state employees) or Hutchings to refuse to require it of school employees just seems beyond strange, illogical and unsafe.

If all the kids have to wear masks (which I support) then all the adults working there need to be vaccinated. Seriously, WTH?!

Everywhere else? I know Fairfax County hasn’t done this yet. My DW works there.
