Where to get a haircut for 11-14yr olds that is not over $50?

She just wants a simple trim.

Don't rule out Hair Cuttery, just make an appointment with a Salon Designer. My kids, now teens always get great cuts there.

This. There are some great stylists at Hair Cuttery.

Sorry, we live in Rockville.

I guess I am looking for a place that shampoos, does a simple cut, and blow dries. A little more than a kid's cut location where they just spray water, quickly trim and walk out. Great idea, but she is in middle school and I am looking for middle of the road. Not the simple $20, but not $60. It doesn't seem like there are many places like this.

np Basically you want to underpay a professional.

Lol $60 for a trim is nuts

Exactly, I pay $65 for a shampoo, conditioner, scalp massage, cut with layers, thinning, blow dry, and flat iron.

There should be an option in the $30-40 range for a shampoo, cut, and blow-dry for tweens. Asking for $65+ for a middle schooler is a joke.

Do hair places ask for legal age ID?

Do you think saying a 5'5" girl with boobs is a 10yr old? My salon it is 10 and under for a kids cut. As soon as they turn 11 it is the same time, but costs 3x as much.

Hair Cuttery in Kensington. Waikeena (so?) and Rose are great. My kids and I have been going to them for years now.

Yes, that is the best method. What's your problem with it? You want to actually pay for the whole rigmarole of shampoo, conditioner, cut in the chair, blah blah blah? That's what makes hairdressers expensive, OP, and it serves no purpose for the actual hair trimming!

There's a really good place for Asian hair in Germantown. I take my daughter's there (it's where I also get mine cut). Wash and cut is $45. They have very long thick hair and a lot of it. Shorter hair could be less. It starts at $35 ages 11+.

There aren’t many 5”5 ten year old girls, so yes I don’t think the actual age is anyone’s business.

My 13 year old DD just got a cut at the Hair Cuttery in Crofton. A senior stylist was $39 plus a tip for a wash, cut and dry.
She did an excellent job.

I don't want to spend extra money like anyone else, though reading the comments, I can understand that a stylist who is doing the whole "experience" (shampoo, cut, dry, style) shouldn't/wouldn't want to charge less just b/c someone is 12 vs 35. The stylist is providing the same service and same commitment of time and experience, so why should the rates change? Does a nail salon charge a different price for a mani for a tween? Honest question, I don't know.

Interestingly, the barber we go to charges more for younger kids than adults, which I found odd, but can understand that dealing with young kids in the chair can be an extra level of patience and effort required. I was happy to age out of that upcharge!

I would say, find a place that does a good job that makes your tween happy and then just pay whatever the rate is (and stretch the appointments as far apart as you can!).

My daughter goes to the Asian barber that my DH and son go to. $20. She is 13, not sure how long that will last.

Anonymous wrote:I trim my girls hair myself. My stylist used to do it for $20 but started charging me full price when they turned 12. No thanks.

You could also take her to a Vietnamese barber. The nice woman who cuts my husbands hair would do it for $20.

I was going to suggest this. My kids go to Hair One in Springfield.

Ellie at Cartoon Cuts in Comgressional. She cuts my hair as well as my kids. I get a shampoo but it doesn’t have the extras like a head and neck massage that you would get at an adult salon. She cuts my hair and blow dries. I think an adult cut is $25 or $30.

My daughter is 14. She wanted to try a fancy salon so I took her. Her comment was that Ellie cuts it nicer.
