It’s more than 4 percent on that list going Ivy+. And there are MANY on that list going top 25. You can poo poo all you want, but it’s a damned good list. |
The Whitman ones are pretty much all legacies. And not regular legacies but super-involved legacies (like the president of the DC Yale club) or VIP legacies (household name or in the national press). There is pretty much no chance of a non-legacy, non recruit, non URM going to the Ivy League. It's the same at the top privates. The Ivy admit rate is COMPLETELY irrelevant to 99% of students at a school regardless of how brilliant or accomplished they are. |
That is sooo not true. Do you think every kid at the Ivies is the child of an alum, an athletic recruit, or a URM? Think again. |
DP, but the bragging rights here, if it’s really necessary to go down that route, rightfully belong to individual students attending schools of their choice, not some Whitman parent living vicariously, and not very graciously, through others (and whose own kids may never get anywhere near HYPSM or another Ivy). |
| Many of the kids at Whitman are Ivy League caliber students. Whitman could 100% populate Princeton. Unfortunately, not everyone can get in. Legacy definitely helps. Parental notoriety helps. |
Uh, no. Not even close. |
For the record, I’m the one who you accused of “bragging.” My kids went to one of the better reputed NOVA public high schools. They didn’t go to Whitman. I don’t know anyone with Whitman connections, in fact. I just saw the heading on this thread and clicked out of curiosity. |
| I’m pleased to see the trend of a few Whitman students attending Rice each year. It’s such a fantastic place. |
You’re just as silly as OP. Congratulations. “Better reputed” |
Sour grapes.
|
Eat me. The point is that Whitman appears to do better than the "better reputed" NOVA high schools in college placement. |
This is true. But it has been explained here that 1) Whitman has more legacies; 2) NOVA has TJ that draws some top McLean/Langley students. TJ is being watered down by the school board. You might see the gap between Whitman and Langley/McLean disappear in a few years. |
|
I think it's an impressive list. My kid is starting at Whitman this fall and I'm glad that every year in the past 5 or so that I've been checking it, about 5% of the grads go off to Ivies. And the rest to prestigious colleges.
I don't care where the kids from TJ go, or the boys from Landon because my kid isn't going to either of those schools. this is such a weird forum. |
You’re also more likely to apply to or decide to attend an Ivy when your in-state option is UMCP rather than UVA or W&M. |
| Nonsense |
