you quoted me. babe, if you think DC is hot during summer I invite you to come over to my home country and find out how it feels to have a summer that lasts 6 months... anyway I bet there's AC running all summer long where OP works so there's no need to pick on the boss unless OP doesn't have anything really interesting to spend her time with. |
after having a baby and still up 20lbs, I rotate the same two pairs of pants every day at work. i refuse to buy more and get too comfortable with new clothes. i do change the tops though. And I almost never dry clean my suit jackets...pretty much only if I get spit up on them. |
I don't believe OP's boss is postpartum. |
pregnancy is not the only option for women to gain weight... |
So you're suggesting that women who gain weight should hold off on purchasing nice work clothes? |
no. I'm suggesting that some women gain weight for different reasons and among them some feel comfortable buying new larger clothes and others prefer to wait until they go back to the previous weight to buy clothing. me for example, i usually put on 3lbs and afew inches around during PMS and I Rotate 2 pants during those 7 days. I won't buy clothing based on those measurments. my mom had to take a soecific drug for a few years and she put on 20lbs she also didn't feel like investing in a while new wardrobe for that short period of time. are you feeling guilty for some reason? |
huh? in regard to what? Simply put, based on your post, I was defending "larger" women - who should feel comfortable purchasing clothes that flatter their frame. So even if you've gained weight due to medicine, why shouldn't you be able to buy a few outfits, even if this weight gain is short lived? Why not make yourself feel better, especially if you're ill? But this is OT completely. Perhaps OP's boss is just cheap. |
cheap? maybe she has her priorities straight and she prefers to spend her money in things like: to live in a safer place or to pay for her kids to go to a better school. maybe she prefers to invest in charities instead of herself.
ppl like PPs make me sick!!!!!! |
I'm the poster who rotates two pairs of pants. If you've got the money to buy lots of new clothes for a transitional period (I hope) then there is no reason not too. but I invested a lot of money in my smaller sizes and i'm not about to spend a ton of money, that i don't have, on a wardrobe that i'm hoping will be too big for me in a few months. FWIW, i've already had my two pairs of pants tailored down since i've already shrunk a bit since i bought them. But, I believe that you can look good and put together at any weight...I'm just looking good in the same pants, lol. If I gained weight and I was sure it was here to stay, I would buy more clothes, but I'm only 4 months PP and steadily losing still. Anyway, yes, this is OT, but point being....I wear the same thing every week! |
DH is German and he does this, I've learned to accept it and make fun of him in a nice way, such as, boy, that sweater can sure make it to your office by itself, now, huh?
|
seems weird to me. i would think the normal thing would be that if you only had 5 suits, you'd have your Monday suit and your Tuesday suit, etc. and you'd just repeat every week. I can't imagine wearing the same thing 5 days in a row. (or even 2.) |
It really does not sound like a finance thing, since she has several (at least five) suits. She could just as easily conform to what most of us agree are social norms in the workplace, and stagger your outfits (not wear the same thing day after day).
I have a lot clothes but very few nice things. I will treat myself to a new pair of pants or a top once in a while, but some of my work clothes are from Kohl's, Target, and sales at the Loft. Some are hand me downs from my mom, it's amazing what doesn't go out of style (things like basic cardigans, etc.). |
wow - coming from who obviously has one suit, too . . . OP SAID, dummy, that her boss wasn't exactly scraping by. |
practically, i don't see anything wrong with this. |
People seem to be going out of their way to say that this is not odd - but, let's face it - it *is* odd! How many of us can say that we see this type of behavior on a regular basis? It's not unusual to wear the same pair of black or grey or brown pants a few times a week when changing tops, but not too many women wear the same brightly colored suit or dress to work every single day. I would definitely have noticed this and thought it was weird. That said, if she is otherwise a lovely person and doesn't smell, then it's just a strange thing that makes for interesting DCUM reading. ![]() |
