Glass cannon formation
2-3-5

Dahlkemper - Sauerbrunn
Williams - Horan - Dunn
Heath - Macario - S Mewis - Lavelle - Press

3-3-4
Dahlkemper - Horan - Sauerbrunn
Williams - S Mewis - Dunn
Heath - Marcario - Lavelle - Press

Williams and Macario are alternates on the Olympic team--so you'll have to wait for the post-Olympic glory tour.

It’s a really old team. The youngest is 26 most are over 30. I really do not know what that says about the US women’s team. Are the older players that good or are there no up and coming players? 18 players only Dunn(29), Sonnet(27), Dahlkemper(28), S. Mewis(28), Lavelle(26) and Horan(27) under 30. I think you would want some fresh young legs out there?

Like all things. The establishment refuse to relinquish power.

Once the focus turns toward WCQ/next World Cup it will be more telling once we see not only which players are getting pulled into camp but who actually plays. If there is not at least 33% turnover from the this roster to the next World Cup the program is in deep shizzle.

Imagine men’s soccer being in such a state you can afford 2 defenders and 5 forwards smh

I do not think you would be scored on with that line up(Dunn and Williams can fly and cover a lot of ground). You would score a lot of goals and the high pressure would be crazy.

I'm not sold on Williams either. However, can we take a moment to talk about how amazing Crystal Dunn is? She still seems underappreciate at me, even though she's an integral part of the team.

She is. She should be playing midfield or forward and scoring goals. She shut down Kadidiatou Diani who was terrorizing defenses. Dunn was faster and quicker and would have tore up the World Cup as a midfielder or forward but you can not player her there if Rapinoe is on the field. Dunn sacrifices her game for Rapinoe.

Williams has size, speed and some technical abilities but is a better fit as an outside mid.

They had an elite left back in Hinkle, but for non-football reasons she wasn't ever going to play on that team even though she played fine with other gay players on her club and they went to bat for her.

There's an arrogance with this team that is unattractive and hard to root for given they have become more of a social movement and economic enterprise than a sporting team. They can do that because they're so deep and can beat most of these teams playing in second gear. The World Cup was much closer than many realize.
Rapinoe winning player of tournament was laughable.

I give Lloyd a ton of credit for working her ass off and being this good at her age. Morgan is barely year off after pregnancy and a new coach was never going to pass on her or Rapinoe even if merit didn't dictate. He'd have lost team which wasn't good for his future.

This feels like a possible meltdown at the Olympics if pieces don't fall together. Limited roster and shorter schedule eaves less flexibility and they have some inflexible people and some nursing injuries. They're fine on the front foot, but will be interesting what happens if they fall behind in matches.

They have become a bit of a farce of marketing and woke-ness. But, I still root for them. The next WWC will tell the story of the system’s younger players.

They will have to replace about 80% of the team? The next World Cup this roster will only have like 3 players under 30. After about 30 you really start to lose speed, quickness, endurance and muscle recovery. 32 and over is old in soccer.

Their shine has worn off on me. Part of the fun is watch the young new players make an impact

Ironic that those who beat their chest the loudest about the establishment turn into the establishment once they get there. I'm sure they feel their spot should be theirs because of what they have done. Problem is, that doesn't mean anything once ball is kicked.

I thought I was the only one that felt this way. They should give chances to the up and coming- feels like its a clique. Need to see new faces, I am sure there are some young players who need this kind of exposure.

There are no players under 26 that can make the team .... the cupboard is bare ....game over man game over!

Get over it. The time around, Olympic rosters are artificially small at 18 + 4 alternates. A WC roster would be 23 players, leaving a bit more room for youth. I wish they were trying to splice in the youth earlier, but Vlatko is apparently smarter than I am. Pretty sure he's smarter than you are too on this topic. I am sure he thinks this roster gives us the best chance at gold.

Hasn’t it been this way for years? The World Cup and the Olympics are usually in back-to-back years for the women, so the World Cup roster is more or less reprised at the Olympics the next year, and then the big player turnover happens before the next World Cup. We’ve just had an extra COVID year between the two events this cycle.
