I would like to see them change formation and really apply the pressure. Glass cannon formation 2-3-5 Dahlkemper - Sauerbrunn Williams - Horan - Dunn Heath - Macario - S Mewis - Lavelle - Press 3-3-4 Dahlkemper - Horan - Sauerbrunn Williams - S Mewis - Dunn Heath - Marcario - Lavelle - Press
Imagine men’s soccer being in such a state you can afford 2 defenders and 5 forwards smh
I do not think you would be scored on with that line up(Dunn and Williams can fly and cover a lot of ground). You would score a lot of goals and the high pressure would be crazy.
I'm not sold on Williams either. However, can we take a moment to talk about how amazing Crystal Dunn is? She still seems underappreciate at me, even though she's an integral part of the team.
She is. She should be playing midfield or forward and scoring goals. She shut down Kadidiatou Diani who was terrorizing defenses. Dunn was faster and quicker and would have tore up the World Cup as a midfielder or forward but you can not player her there if Rapinoe is on the field. Dunn sacrifices her game for Rapinoe. Williams has size, speed and some technical abilities but is a better fit as an outside mid.
They had an elite left back in Hinkle, but for non-football reasons she wasn't ever going to play on that team even though she played fine with other gay players on her club and they went to bat for her. There's an arrogance with this team that is unattractive and hard to root for given they have become more of a social movement and economic enterprise than a sporting team. They can do that because they're so deep and can beat most of these teams playing in second gear. The World Cup was much closer than many realize. Rapinoe winning player of tournament was laughable. I give Lloyd a ton of credit for working her ass off and being this good at her age. Morgan is barely year off after pregnancy and a new coach was never going to pass on her or Rapinoe even if merit didn't dictate. He'd have lost team which wasn't good for his future. This feels like a possible meltdown at the Olympics if pieces don't fall together. Limited roster and shorter schedule eaves less flexibility and they have some inflexible people and some nursing injuries. They're fine on the front foot, but will be interesting what happens if they fall behind in matches.
