Backing out of our Contract

Usually if your kid is any good at all He will have offers from every club he tries out for. If he got any rejections at all. You need to asses and find a team that your kid will develop the most at. A better team isn't always the best for development. Since your trying out at various clubs tells me your son isn't a top player. Remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

This post is spot on! As much grief as everyone on this forum gives clubs, parents like the OP is part of the problem. If you have a goal of joining another team/club then don’t commit to anyone until you make that final decision, even if it forces you to drag out other offers. It’s best to be honest with all parties involved and soccer is a small world. You’ll never know if that coach you ticked off will be a influencer in the future. Teach your player that commitment means something and that those decisions have both good and bad consequences. I hope the club does stick to the contract language and charges what was signed.

Disagree.

Why did he accept the offer? Because Clubs give you less than 48hrs. to make a decision. They also don't tell you about, practice schedules, coaching staff, team fees, etc.

Ridiculous!

The car salesperson tells you the deal is only good for the next 24 hours...You don’t need to pull the trigger, but once you do the car is yours. Stop using the club as your excuse. You have zero obligation to accept the offer. The contract language should be respected and you should read to see if it is a nonrefundable deposit or if you owe the full balance. Regardless, you should owe what is stipulated in the agreement.

WOWWW the number of internet attorneys "STICK TO THE CONTRACT!!!!!!!" is amazing. Lose the deposit and move on. GO where the kid is happy and will fit best. Yea, I can see losing a deposit but "feet to the fire" for the full payment in mid June is stupid. Then again, DCUM soccer nazi's are stupid. Why am I here.

Reading this and other threads makes me happy that DS stuck with AAU basketball rather than switching to travel soccer. We’ve paid season by season and not much. No contract or commitment in fact DS joined new AAU team mid season but was still allowed to practice and play tournament games with old team.

It’s not a handshake, it’s a contract. Stop being an idiot, you’re welcome not to sign.

Don't worry too much about a soccer contract. I do t think there is a thing you can do if the club does not uphold their end of whatever this agreement looks like. Clubs overstuff rosters, take on new players mid season, tell players not to even dress for games or provide crap playing time......just saying this is not a biz full of respect for the players by the clubs.

Don't be a sucker because the clubs don't care that.much about your player. You need to watch out for own player and try to find the best situation possible.

The contracts need to be rewritten. Not having coaches identified, no cap to rosters identified, easily an agreement that is totally lopsided. I don’t know why anyone signs up right anymore without that information.

Beyond a contract you are backing out on your Team after you committed and after the window to backfill you has passed. We can make the club out to be bad guy but that does not fit this situation.

There’s a reason that colleges and professionals have the same window to sign. Kids soccer doesn’t. A year of a 12yo’s life is 8% of the time they’ve been alive. The contract is one way, from the club to the player. It contains no provisions in exchange that MUST be provided, practices and sometimes coaches change, it’s for those reasons that it’s ridiculous to expect someone to stay in a situation where it could be better for their kid. Take the better team for the right reasons (better fit/training/commute) not winning or “higher team” and be happy about it.

OP updating.
We were able to back out of the contract justifying that we registered under coach A and after registering you changed to coach B. I even spoke with the DOC who tried to convince us to reconsider. My husband and I was in deblief because he wouldn't even address our concern throughout the whole season; and now he's asking us to reconsider......

Good to hear that. Glad you didn't listen to the dumb a$$es who told you to stick to the contract.
