After/while doing laundry, do you wash your hands?

1st response writer: literally almost anything with a fecal-oral transmission route, all of which is routinely found in samples of laundry that is “not that dirty.”

I hate to exacerbate your debilitating anxiety, but literally *everything* can be "fecal-oral" transmission. Remote control, laptop, home doorknobs (let alone *GASP* public doorknobs!), clothes hangers you touch over and over again, the sink handles, the towel racks, your shoelaces, your makeup brushes, your hairbrushes, your hair styling tools and products, etc. If you washed your hands every time you touched anything that could have micro fecal particles on them, your hands would be raw.

I sincerely am so grateful that I'm not a germophobe - it sounds exhausting and horrible for your immune system.

New poster. Wow, you are invested in diagnosing that PP as having "debilitating anxiety." Maybe you need another hobby? Unless you're a magical over the internet psychiatrist?....

I"m not a germaphobe but I wash my hands after putting laundry into the washer if the laundry includes underwear. I think the reason for that is self-evident. I don't know why you'd be fine with putting a load of underwear into the washer then just carrying on....It's just common sense to wash after handling underwear, like it's common sense to wash after using the toilet and wiping your ass. Or is that being a germaphobe too?

I do not wash my hands after transferring laundry to the dryer or at other times associated with laundry, though.

Actually an enormous number of things on that list don’t have anywhere near as high bacterial and viral counts, when swabbed, as your dirty laundry. And I do wash my hands immediately before I eat, every time. I am glad you are not a germophobe, but it’s kind of a non sequitur here because I’m not either.

You know the detergent is on the inside of the pods, right OP? There’s nothing to wash off after handling a detergent pod unless it’s ruptured.

First PP here that is apparently suffering from debilitating fears thanks to DCUM poster who gives free medical diagnosis- the reason I wash my hands before taking my clothes out and folding them is because maybe I had a snack, maybe I spent time petting my dog or maybe I just went to the bathroom- but I like to know that the towel I will dry my face on won’t have dirt or debris on it from dirty hands. Also, if you have fecal particles on that many items in your home- remote, laptop, etc, you need a better cleaning person. Are you my boss who uses the restroom and doesn’t wash her hands after? Hi Sarah!

There are some OCD people up in here.

This is insanity.

Are you the poster who takes 3 showers a day too?

Not wearing shoes in house is common sense. Washing hands before switching your clothes into the dryer is paranoia.

Not the first PP but I wash my hand before switching clothes from washer to dryer and again when removing clothes from dryer to fold so that I don't get the crud from my hands on my clean laundry.

Why are you walking around with crud on your hands? 🤔

To be fair, I am no germaphobe and think these people are nuts, but I did eat an ice cream sandwich last night then changed the laundry and got some sandwhich on the towels so it looked like poop! Had to rewash… so, not always a bad idea to wash, at Lea when having eaten an ice cream sandwich.

My daughter OCD, so she would. She washes her hands after putting her dirty clothes into the laundry hamper. After taking them out of the hamper an putting them into the washer, she stops to wash her hands before starting it.

I'll wash my hands if I handle laundry that actually smells bad, like sweaty underwear. I don't have concerns about the t-shirt that I wore while I sat at my desk all day.

Some of you are confusing "eew germs ewww dirty eww cooties" with susceptibility to getting sick.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with "eew germs eeww dirty eww cooties" in moderate amounts. Touching your own family's dirty laundry is unlikely to get you sick - it's an anxiety thing, not a rational thing.

Let’s see your numbers on that. I think you more or less just made it up because something about diagnosing people with anxiety problems they don’t have is working for you, psychologically.

If I were responsible for others then I’d certainly wash my hands after handling dirty laundry. But it’s just me and DW, and we share germs, so I’m lax about it.

I wash my hands before taking wet clothes out of washer and dry clothes out of the dryer. Otherwise, I don’t think my dirty clothes are that dirty I guess. Otherwise, I’d have to wash my hands every time I touched my clothing all day.
