After/while doing laundry, do you wash your hands?

Wrong analogy. No, when my kid comes home I do not have him take off his outer garments so I can rub my hands on his underwear and then go prep dinner.

If you’re doing that…I guess try to make sure no one finds out about it, because that ish is crazy.

I think most people agree about the need to wash hands before food prep.

There is no need to rub your hands on your kids underwear before wasing either..just so you know.

What do you move it with, tongs?

Exactly how dirty are your kids underwear? About 90% just touches dry skin like a shirt. I do not pick it up by the crotch.

Yes, I wash hands after putting in a load of dirty underwear. Other things don't get as dirty.

1st response writer: literally almost anything with a fecal-oral transmission route, all of which is routinely found in samples of laundry that is “not that dirty.”

I hate to exacerbate your debilitating anxiety, but literally *everything* can be "fecal-oral" transmission. Remote control, laptop, home doorknobs (let alone *GASP* public doorknobs!), clothes hangers you touch over and over again, the sink handles, the towel racks, your shoelaces, your makeup brushes, your hairbrushes, your hair styling tools and products, etc. If you washed your hands every time you touched anything that could have micro fecal particles on them, your hands would be raw.

I sincerely am so grateful that I'm not a germophobe - it sounds exhausting and horrible for your immune system.

New poster. Wow, you are invested in diagnosing that PP as having "debilitating anxiety." Maybe you need another hobby? Unless you're a magical over the internet psychiatrist?....

I"m not a germaphobe but I wash my hands after putting laundry into the washer if the laundry includes underwear. I think the reason for that is self-evident. I don't know why you'd be fine with putting a load of underwear into the washer then just carrying on....It's just common sense to wash after handling underwear, like it's common sense to wash after using the toilet and wiping your ass. Or is that being a germaphobe too?

I do not wash my hands after transferring laundry to the dryer or at other times associated with laundry, though.

I'd wash my hands if I were handling the crotch of my underwear, or maybe if I rubbed my genitals or perianal area all over them (but I don't, actually). But underwear included the middle of a pile of clothes? Unlikely, unless there were some other reason. Not just that there was underwear somewhere in the middle of a pile.

But I do wash my hands periodically anyway, and before handling food.

Next thread idea...Do you wash your hands after getting dressed since you have touched your germ ridden clothes headed for the hamper?

Should I wash my hands every time my hand brushes or rests on my jeans or skirt, or is that only necessary if the garment has been moved a few inches off my body?

Why wouldn't you do that? You are handling dirty clothes when you put them in the machine of course you wash your hands after.

You do a whole load of just underwear?

Umm, touching dirty clothes requires a hand wash after for sure.

I do, because I do stain removal on items before the wash. That takes time and goes piece by piece. I don't want to accidentally touch my face/eyes with hands that have stain remover. Or things that might be damaged by laundry soap.

Some washing machines now come with a built in faucet feature so you can use the washer instead of a sink as a pre-treatment area. I can't decide if that's convenient or not.

Umm, this thread is 4 years old.

Umm dumping a laundry basket into the wash doesn’t involve touching anything.

The fact that some of you have made it to adulthood(presumably) is a miracle

I find that the Tide pods leave residue on my hands so I do wash them if I have touched multiple because otherwise I sometimes taste it when I eat something with my hands.

I wash my hands before I put clean dishes away, but for whatever reason I would only do it before laundry if my hands were dirty, but then I would have washed them at that time anyway. Dishwasher I wash every time no matter how recently I did it.
