Masks at drop off... why?

1. I didn’t have time to put on makeup and my mascne isn’t gone.
2. It’s a show of solidarity for the kids.
3. How can we expect such a huge ask from our kids when we can’t be bothered to wear one 2 minutes per day?
4. I live with someone who couldn’t get vaccinated and don’t want to take even the small chance.
5. Habit.
6. I don’t want to talk to anyone.
7. I have a cold.
8. I don’t want the RSV that’s been circulating in our school.
9. I’m going to the store right after and it’s easier to wear it up than have it pulling under my chin.
10. To piss you off.
11. I forgot to brush my teeth.
12. Shall I go on?

This thread is about why schools still *require* masks on parents outdoors, not why you love wearing them.

But are they really required though? Has someone made you leave school property for not wearing one?

It’s official policy. I occasionally ignore it, but I’m one of the few who do. I bet lots of (most) parents only wear them because they are rule followers. So the policy definitely has power, in conjunction with peer pressure.

+1 People are still dying of COVID. Under 12s aren't eligible for vaccination. Just wear the damn mask and stop whining OP. It's the least you can do as a functional member of society.

as a functional member of society, I just took my kid to Starbucks - me unmasked and him masked. The other unmasked patrons seemed thrilled to chat and see us out having a relatively normal time. THAT felt like being a functional member of society. Not some weird covid theater that visually symbolizes the dysfunctional system that closed schools this year. everyone pretending together is dysfunctional.

DC is the land of blindly following rules regardless of how effective or useful they are. For such an educated region of the country independent thought is really lacking.

Schools require them on school grounds. I doubt any schools are doing drop off on school grounds because parents aren’t even allowed there.

You are wrong. Parents are allowed on the outdoor school grounds at our elementary school.

Because I want to piss you off?
Because I'm pregnant?
Because the little germ carriers aren't vaxxed yet?

Why does such a trivial thing like wearing a mask piss people off so much? I just don't get it. People are completely deranged about it. Just @#$% put the mask on, if for no other reason than it is polite and makes some people feel more comfortable right now. Isn't that enough? Or do you enjoy being a jerk?

DCPS is mandating masks for parents because you want to piss off the OP?

Sounds like you are the one who is pissed off. I just calmly ignore the rule when I want to breathe freely outside. I don’t mind masks when shopping indoors, so there I still wear them to make you feel better, even though I am vaccinated and the store isn’t mandating it.

Who cares? How long does drop-off or pick-up take, maybe four minutes? Of all the many things to worry about right now, I can't even pretend to care about whether this rule still makes sense.

Always complaining about something. Just wow.
