A great sport for some, but since my son is in the 15th percentile for height, not for him! |
| Does super Y publish rosters? I see the list the top 10 players but it appears to just be alphabetical order. |
Oh if he loves it he will do it! My tiny son is scrappy as hell with all kinds of moves. He is not college or NBA bound in it,,but his passion and drive and practice keeps him strong even now, end of 7th grade. Soccer is still his primary sport, but I think he has more passion for basketball. I let them do what they love. |
| My kid did it one year. It was HOT, too hot. few if any subs as the roster is not full and if they do run a big roster the no show rate is high given summer travel, weather and burn out. As a result, the roster is a challenge which makes it miserable for the players |

Summer basketball is a thing

I laugh because this 'too hot' crap. My kids have never done Super Y--but they have done MANY soccer summer camps that were outside 9-3pm in the hot summer sun...and played ALL DAY. I remember the first year the Barca camp came to the US back in 2016 at Sidwell---that week was triple digits. My kids played all week and when I came to pick them up off the turf, part of my rubber flip flop melted!!! They play in Memorial Day and Labor Day..and a lot of Spring seasons, it is well into the mid 90s. |
This is why my kid started liking the indoor basketball camps

okay we get it. you're on the wrong forum for basketball. |
it is hot in July, heat stroke is real, if you enjoy it great |

My kid's Super Y team will have practice 2x week (for an hour or 90 minutes, I forget) and one game per week. With no school going on, that still seems to leave plenty of time for other sports and plenty of free playtime and rest time.
One thing that seems nice about Super Y is that kids can tryout for and play for a different club than their regular season club, if they wish. That allows the kids (and parents) to have at least some exposure to a club before potentially making the decision to switch from one club to another, the year after next. Anyway, as someone else said, if you're going to be playing soccer this summer -- whether at a camp or "development" training thing or whatever -- it's going to be hot. But it's hot on the basketball courts in the inner city too, isn't it? And some great basketball players probably developed during the summer in their pickup games or mini summer leagues. |
| it's even more fun when you get to play an established team that enters its entire "A" squad (including players who play up an age group during the season) back down at age so they can rain goals on your kid's team of ragtag sign-ups to keep them getting touches over the summer |
You're taking it waaaay too seriously - and I say that as the parent of a kid who plays Super Y for Arlington's "B team." |
My kids a bigger big guy and a starter on ECNL so he is up for the challenge. Not a big deal. |
| Are any super y teams still accepting players? We are new to this. |
