Fox News livestreamed the LCPS school board meeting last night. Half the people commenting on things on FB don't even live in the state, much less the county.

oh lord I want to go back on Facebook just for the comments

As a fellow PE teacher, I hope he is fired and never hired to work with children again.

Amen.

100% agree he is not fit to teach children.

I think rational people may be able to disagree on the best way to handle the bathroom issue. But a teacher refusing to call a child what they want to be called (and, seemingly, what their family calls them)? Unnecessarily antagonistic, cruel and self important.

There are a few important details here - he was commenting on a proposed policy of the School Board. It wasn't an official policy yet.

Providing comments for a proposed policy is something we should want people to feel free to do.

The issue is that a person expressed an opinion on a proposed policy of the School Board and was immediately placed on leave from employment AND barred from speaking at future School Board meetings.

That kind of reaction by a government body should be frightening to everyone.

That's not part of the proposed policy -- the change is at the request of the parent or student.

LCPS staff shall allow gender-expansive or transgender students to use their chosen name and gender pronouns that reflect their gender identity without any substantiating evidence, regardless of the name and gender recorded in the student’s permanent educational record. School staff shall, at the request of a student or parent/legal guardian, when using a name or pronoun to address the student, use the name and pronoun that correspond to their gender identity.

Elementary school kids should be referred by their biological pronouns.

Disagree completely. How dare he presume to declare his intention to deliberately misgender and dead name children?

His name is Byron. He prefers Tanner. I hope everyone calls him Byron from now on.

The only appropriate response to a child declaring this is to abide by the child's wishes. Either they're legitimately trans or they're trying on an identity -- it doesn't matter. Who the hell is some PE teacher think he is to correct a child doing this? It's so far out of line.

He won his case because this is all theoretical. But once LCPS puts the policy in place, if he actually goes out of his way to violate it, I hope he is fired again. And it would stick.

And screw his "faith" argument. Jesus would side with the children. He has an extremely warped view of how Christians should behave.

+1. It pains me to agree with this, but things have gotten out of hand. My 2nd grader has a kid transitioning in her class.

If it pains you than maybe you shouldn't be agreeing with it! This is about calling children by the names and pronouns they prefer. I'm not sure why that is an issue for you or your child.

My child preferred to be called a cat at one point. Should I have indulged her?

Yes, of course. How is this even a question.

Do you want your daughter to be in the girls bathroom/locker room, when a boy (who claims to be a girl) enters?

So you think boys, this is specifically about elementary age kids but we can go ahead and take it though to high school if you'd like, are going to just walk into the girls bathroom/locker rooms claiming to be girls? Because that's not what's happening. A child, that identifies as a girl, likely dresses and looks like a girl is using the girls bathroom and yes, I'm 100% ok with my daughter using the bathroom with this child. In fact, I think it would be more confusing for my son to have the same child walk into the boys bathroom!
Maybe it's just because I'm not a close minded, bigot and I'm raising my kids to be respectful and welcoming of all people. We have a transgender family member so maybe it's easier for us but I can't understand how this is a problem for so many people.

Because the end goal is to obliterate any notion of reality tied with biology and what has made us teach this point in evolution.

Pink hair, asking for new pronouns, perverting the language, endorsing promoting and condoning ideology dogmas which are basically neomarxist doctrines of destroying family concept and values to have a warped society of confused people and giving into moral depravation.

That’s why. Because there’s an agenda and you fools are aiding the problem

What, pray tell, is the "agenda?"

None of this affects you. None of it. Your bigoted discomfort with it is not relevant and your opinions about it are not valid because it literally doesn't affect you.

It’s clear who doesn’t actually I ow any transgender people. I’d be a lot more worried about my daughter getting shot at school than a boy coming into the bathroom. Get some real problems.

This. A thousand times this.

And, for Christ's sake, how often are multiple children in a bathroom in elementary school anyway? This is such a straw man argument.

What’s the agenda asks the brain dead moron…. Look at Nickelodeon’s last video for kids aged 4-12 about transgenderism and also explain why the neomarxist BLM fist is floating around that video “subliminally”

This is just the most ignorant trope.

Grandma unclench your pearls and head right on back to Cornerstone Church where you belong. Younger kids are already dealing with this just fine. The world is different from when your learned to drive that horse drawn carriage. Take your right wing ideas of what families and individuals are like and stuff it.

As there are no requirements (medical, etc.) for this switch to occur, do you really not think there will be incidents of boys going into girls bathrooms/locker rooms? If someone has truly switched sides so to speak, I don't have any issues with it, but there's such a grey area that many will drive a truck through it. Teenage boys will be teenage boys, and who takes responsibility then to what happens to the girls?

What sexist, toxic crap you are spewing? The boys and their parents will be responsible. Don't raise your boys to be cretins. Lemme guess you raise your boys to accept rape culture and believe girls get what they deserve if they are abused or assaulted. Examine your beliefs fool.

Putin's minions who have invaded this space are doing everything they can to create something out of nothing to coalesce their ignorant rubes back into a cohesive group in a weak assed attempt to sway local elections. These are the same people who were at the capital 1/6. Terrorists, seditionists, fascists. These people are anti-democracy.
