Alexandria MLS Next Tryout Notifications

All this shifts at U13 and the top team will be the MLSNext team and the second team will be red and so on.

This is a little frustrating to me. My son was on the red team, but we aren't interested in MLS Next. We don't like the substiution rules, and the additional travel does not sound appealing. We also can't do the fourth day of practice without giving up his other sport. Unfortunately, it seems like his only option is to play with a less competitive team of players (the new red team, which I imagine will be largely the current white team). I guess it is what it is, but this isn't a good change for us personally.

Won't a lot of Red players not make MLS team? I would think Red will be a combo of Red and White and probably be very strong, too.

That's how it is over in Arlington with the ECNL and Red teams. The level of play is fairly equal in strength and both play in State Cup. At HS level, you do kids that want less travel/time constraint or play more than one sport. I think a lot of this has to do with ECNL & MLSNxt drawing players from outside of the Club so you have a large pool of talent for both teams with existing players and players coming over for the leagues.

I'm sure the white team parents will welcome you with open arms with that kind of shitty attitude. Plenty of white team are at a higher level than some red but politics abound.

The 'not interested in mlsnext' is what is said to save face when the kid doesn't make the team.

Give me a break. NP and not even at Alexandria but just rolling my eyes at immediate PP.
Can you seriously not imagine a world where a good player does not want to make soccer his whole life at age 12? And imagine the cost to the family in terms of time and everything. What if there are siblings or just don't want to drive hours away each weekend?

Valid point, it takes both the parents and the kid buying into it. Lot of travel and expenses involved. We do it because we want to see how my DS ranks against other top teams players on the east coast. As Ric Flair said, "to be the best, you have to beat the best!". WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

If that's the case, we will be happy with it. Ordinarily I would not especially care about white vs. red team players, but I have had three kids go through Alexandria's travel program, and the level of talent in my son's year overall is not as strong as it was for my daughter or other son, so I do think in this particular case it would make some difference.

Pretty simple calculation. If you want to play HS and don’t plan on playing in college, just stick with the red team. For those who have dreams of going pro and can make an honest play for a college program, play in MLSNext. If you want HS and think you’ve got pro/college chances, find an ECNL team.

Correct, its more like if you want your kid to say he used to play against so and so when he was young, then do MSLNext.

Or it could be your kid doesn’t want to play with kids with d’bag parents from neighboring clubs.

Pretty simple calculation. If you want to play HS and don’t plan on playing in college, just go for either or both, ECNL and MSL Next. Sky is the limit!

The substitution rule for U13 and up is ridiculous.

What is the substitution rule?

Lol. Get over yourself. This is real money spent by real parents. They should be told if this is BS so the parents can understand what they are getting into.

For U-15 - U-19 same as DA. When you come out your out. You can come out for a brief injury while being checked by trainer in some circumstances. Also DA stated you had to have 25% starts and MLS Next only recommends it.

Word on the street is the 08 team is being shaken up. Their current coach (LC) is out next year and not listed as coaching any team next year, several current players were moved down, and new players from Arlington/Loudoun are joining.

That team has been together since U9 so if true- that’s some pretty big changes. Why the h@ll wants to drive to Alexandria from Loudoun?
