Teen party - what does a neighbor do?

Anonymous
With the possibility of drinking and driving on the table, I would call the police.

You have to live with yourself if one of them hurts themself or someone else and you could have prevented it.

And you definitely tell the parent. Don’t be coy about it. Just state the facts. I went over due to noise and observed xyz. FYI.

OP call the police next time. Nonemergency number.

Drunk drivers only takes one.

This is about parenting, it's about neighboring.

Be a good neighbor and MYOB!

I am a MYOB type in general and am baffled that people think this applies in this situation. Grow up.

Underage drinkers? It's about parenting. Who gives a flip about "neighboring". One kid gets behind wheel from that party drunk and invariably another family loses. Neigbors serving under age teens alcohol call police period. There is no excuse for not.

If you see a drunk driver go for it call the police. But you are letting your imagination catastrophize and that’s unhealthy. You need help if you catastrophize everything!

You literally have no idea what is going on in the house. You hear loud music see 1 beer can and you are calling police. Grow up.

If you are such a good neighbor call the parents.

The loud music is enough to call the police. Being a good neighbor does not equal looking the other way when people do highly inconsiderate things.

And to the pp, yes there were 50 kids and only one beer. They all took one sip and passed it around.

^^^^ finally getting your revenge for never being invited to teen parties.

I would just want to make sure the parents knew when they respond to your text. Larla really had the whole gang over last night! I guess now that teens are vaccinated they can get back to their social lives. I do not know what your policy for the party was but there was a beer can outside.

Think through this. She’s supposed to stand at her window to see if anyone seems drunk and gets in their car to drive and then call the police. That will do...what exactly?

She saw a single beer can in the STREET. No mention of seeing any of the kids drinking or alcohol on the kitchen table etc when she went over to talk to the teen. This seems overblown.

Think through this.

Every time there is loud music and she sees 1 beer can she is to assume there is a teen drinking party? She is suppose to catastrophize the situation and imagine dead children and believe it’s her responsibility to police her neighbors.

Call the neighbor make sure they know there are kids in their house, leave it at that.
