Should I change driving instructors again?

You are misinformed. There is a vast difference between somehow muddling through and becoming a skillful driver.

DMV doesn't require skilled drivers. Just competent.

The reason nobody needs to be taught HOW to turn a steering wheel is because anybody sliding into the driver's seat for the first time has BEEN in the passenger seat at some point - they've SEEN a driver turn the wheel. Just do what everyone else using two hands does.

I just started to learn with a new one who didn't instruct me how to turn my steering wheel. I just told him that the last time I drove was a year ago for 2 weeks. So he didn't instruct me how to turn my steering wheel or how to position my seat. I just positioned it how I felt comfortable. He also didn't tell me if I was stopping behind the car in front of me too far away. I had another driving instructor who would but he'd quickly get angry and was very sarcastic and rude. Is this one teaching me properly?

I would print out the Virginia DMV booklet and do the lessons they have there. They have step by step 30 minute lessons and you don’t get out of the parking lot for the first few. Have a patient friend go with you. That way you can get up to speed and get comfortable with the car before you set out in the road.

If you want to look again, walk into your local HS and talk to the office staff about who is the nicest calmest drivers Ed teacher inthe building. Then talk to them and see if they will do if with you (for pay of course)

Life has a higher standard than mediocrity. So does any self respecting person.

Unless you’re taking a defensive driving class or a track class, experience is the way most people learn.

And there is a pronounced difference between good experience and bad experience, luck and skill. An instructor’s job is to impress fundamentals so that the experiential learning component has a solid foundation as opposed to being a collection of random events that only by chance do not result in a disaster.

Eh, I get it OP. I am also a late driver and have found all driving instructors almost universally bad. There’s no real training for them, and it is very disconcerting when you are doing something as dangerous as getting behind the wheel and the dude is acting in a strange manner and doesn’t inspire confidence as a teacher. I think maybe they also likely take advantage of the fact that they mainly teach kids who don’t know any better. If I were you I’d fire any teacher you don’t click with and trust.

Most driving schools have yelp or other reviews, you could look for an instructor who gets a bunch of positive shout-outs. I didn't always like my instructor because I felt dumb and/or nervous, but she was what I needed-not unkind, but no-nonsense and firm.

OP keep in mind that the instructor probably didn't tell you how to turn the wheel or the distance to stop and things like that because what you were doing was likely fine. Driving instructors teach more by correcting anything that is wrong.
