| Can GBRS be questioned for clarification? |

If we appeal with a WISC and are found ineligible, if we apply again in 3rd grade, do we need to submit the WISC again? Or if we choose to hold it back, then do they see it from appeal packet?
Similarly, if we write a letter in our appeal but are not found eligible, will the letter and the information in it stay in the file and be seen again if we apply again in 3rd grade? |
My kid got in first round last year with the same NNAT and GPRS. Plus DRA 30 and COGAT 141. My kid is good at Math, much more than Reading; and the teacher's comments in GPRS report was almost about Math. However, in the "Area of strengh in Maths and Reading", only Reading was checked. The same as your kid. I contacted the AART, she told me that he's good at math, but he was not taught Advance Math at school. Thus Math was checked No. Hope that helps! |
Each year is a new application. You can choose what you want to be included or not. next year, you'd have a whole new set of work samples. |
We included it for 3rd grade application. What is helpful is that the school put in the scores (including subscores) into their assessment form. We had high test scores, so it all showed up on the school's submission along with NAAT, CogAt, DRA etc to show a complete numerical picture. |

If you write a letter for an appeal, who do you address it to? Ie. Dear Appeals Committee? Or Dear...?
Help! Thanks. |
No |
| Just found out there are 4 OO in the GBRS; in the area of strength, both math and reading are checked yes. NNAT 139. No other test score. Is this a solid case for appeal? Do we need to take the WISC? Thanks! |
4 OO is the lowest score possible for the GBRSs. I would look at the comments carefully and figure out how to address what they say are weaknesses and explain how he is really strong in those areas. Do not say that the Teachers were wrong but find examples and work samples that demonstrate those specific areas. |
But luckily, MS has Honors level courses which are the same as AAP and are open for all kids to register for. To me, getting to stay at the neighborhood school and being principal placed, then doing all Honors in MS isn't really a bad set up. In fact, why isn't all AAP done this way, instead of all this aap center nonsense. |
Come back to us when you have experience at a center school, before talking about getting rid of them. |
I rather my kid not get as a rigorous education (and that’s questionable) than to deal with arrogant center parents and kids. You guys are insufferable bunch. And that local level kid is going to be in the same classes in MS as your center kid. |
Neither I nor my kid is arrogant or insufferable. Please don't attack anonymous children. |
Do we really have to? I did not know that. |
We didn't kiss anyone's ass and DS had solid GBRSs. His Teachers were very complimentary at the parent Teacher conferences. When we asked what he might need some help with at home they thought we were crazy. I doubt the AART or the Principal has any idea who we are. |
