Same I think old man name. Or young boy nerd. |
Our niece is turning 18 this year - named for Sydney Bristow, lol. She's Sydney, Syd, and now Sissy to the little ones in the family. I think she loves her name. |
Not a fan. Sorry! |
Jewish NYer here. Sidney is an old man’s name. Sydney is the spelling given to young girls. And yes, we know two under the age of 12. Both Jewish and both honoring Sidneys. Great name OP! |
| Vehemently dislike |
| Feels unsophisticated and on the tacky side to me. I have a good friend whose lovely DD is Sydney, and I still can’t get behind it. |
| I actually really like this name! |
|
I personally like feminine sounding names for girls and agree with those that associate it with an older man. I also get the associations from Scream but that’s not a good enough reason for me to not go with the name if you really like it.
Ultimately, you’re never going to find a name that’s going to please everyone and it seems like the general theme on this thread is that it’s well liked enough where it wouldn’t be problematic at all (teasing, etc.) |
Wow you just discounted your own opinion pretty fast there! Lol |
| I think it's a great name. Definitely reminds me of alias I was obsessed with that show. |
| I don't mind that it's a "man's name", but I'm getting an '80s vibe -- Sydney, Blair, Brittany -- weren't they all sitcom characters? |
| It's not an awful name, but there's nothing really "good" about it either. It's just there. |
If it were to remind me of kidney, it would need to be Digny. Dagny is pronounced DAG-NEE. Doesn't rhyme with kidney. OK? |
| My kid has a Sydney in their class. 6th grade. We like the nsme |
.... Yikes you really missed the point there |
