Is your school returning full time in term 4?

I don’t want anyone for even a second to think that we are doing it for the rude and nasty people on this site. I didn’t read this site before the brookings report, but holy hell were they right. DCPS has already begun their backtracking bc they realize their messaging helped create this nice white parent monster, but it will also take some self reflection from y’all. I hope you take this opportunity to start thanking teachers and mending those relationships bc boy oh boy was your true self shown during this time.

If you've read this site and these threads (and not had to go into a classroom and teach for almost an entire year) then you should know that while there is certainly some venting done here (it's part of the fun of being anonymous on the Internet) there is ample reason for DCPS parents to be angry and frustrated with how the school system has treated us and our kids. You might want to check some of your own assumptions. Not all of us are rich white parents living in NW.

And you shouldn't go back "for the rude and nasty people on this site." You should go back because IT'S YOUR JOB and our tax dollars pay your salary. Also because the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly clear that it is safe to do so.

As for "thanking" teachers, what should we thank them for? Slavishly following the divisive advice of the WTU? Failing to show up for Zoom classes, grade student work, or make themselves available on the day off they have EVERY WEEK when they are supposed to be supporting students? Because I have two kids in DCPS at two different schools and that has been our experience. And neither has been able to return to IPL this year. I'll thank you to do your job and stop acting like you are a hero.

Thank you for proving my point.

Key is 4 days a week. Wednesdays are still for teacher Netflix & mani pedis.

You shouldn’t go back for any parents that you perceive as rude or nasty. You should do it (and should have done it much earlier) for the kids, who did not choose their parents or are responsible for their parents’ behavior, and who have a right to go to school.

Your point was to make parents who are frustrated and angry feel bad about that and instead chastise them about not thanking their teachers enough. Those of us who have been doing a lot of DCPS' job at home for them this year while also doing our own jobs (including many of us who don't have the option to work from home) have lost patience with the idea that teachers are some sort of special or heroic group of workers, to say nothing of the stunts pulled by the WTU. If you need to be constantly praised and thanked for doing your job then good luck to you. As grateful as many of us are for the efforts of individual teachers this year, teachers as a group in DC don't deserve special praise for being among the worst in the US about getting back into a classroom to teach kids.

what? stop hiding behind the “nice white parents” bullsh*t. teachers literally went on strike so they didn’t have to teach my SN kid. that will take a long time for me to get over.

LOL. "I heard about a mean place on the internet so I went there and they were mean!"

We all put our big-girl/boy panties on one leg at a time.

OP here: If you're not going to name your school, please don't bother commenting, that's not why I asked (also, you are just doing it to be rude and show off which is weird).

Well that was indeed rude but thanks for the info. Is it for all who wanted it?

+1000. The Lafayette virtual parents are seriously trying to ruin this for us. It's getting really hard to sympathize with them - small number of crazy people who don't believe school should ever reopen. Those that were on the parent huddle heard it - BONKERS

No way I’ll name it a) because I’m petty like that 2) we are high performing, diverse and never mentioned on DCUM.

We don’t trash teachers or admin (even in private).

None of us wanted to go back in term 3 we didn’t think it was safe.

I posted this:
1. It’s 4 days a week and no parent is whining about it.
2. All the plans for schools are on the DCPS website so sourcing information from DCUM shows me how well you know how to do anything
3. The trash remarks from the trash women to a teacher (so teachers can Netflix and get a mani/pedi) your kids hate you too. You are failing as a parent. You get a tax credit for it and yet you do jack. Be better at being a human.

Oh it’s a private site I just come here to vent - piss off - go journal. You come here for the echo chamber. People posting success w the lottery are not venting.

And if Lafayette does their big cafeteria plan I will report them to the dept of health just to piss all the whiny moms who need kids back ASAP at the risk of everyone else. You have more - try and see that. Because we are done making life comfortable for you at the expense of everyone else

DC is incredibly far behind the rest of the country is reopening schools. Most schools in this country are now open, with kids going to class five days per week.

They actually aren’t. Most are opening like dc but they get to claim open status because they have a percentage back.

Burbio does the best job tracking school openings. As of April 5, they say 64 percent of elementary school students are going to school five days a week. 50 percent of middle schools are back five days a week and 47 percent of high school students are back in the classroom full time.
