Family of six killed by depressed and suicidal 19-year-old

Very sad. We need better mental health resources and also common sense gun laws. It's ridiculous that he was able to buy a gun.

This is a clear example of confirmation bias. Of course you are going to see a lot of violent tendencies in the incarcerated population--they're incarcerated for a reason. What you fail to grasp is that 40% of people experience a mental illness during their lifetime, and more than 99% of them are not violent toward themselves or others.

Actually an extensive body of research by mental health professionals shows a much higher rate of violence in the mentallly ill population than the less than 1% you are claiming.

I assume you mean well, but you are WAY off base in making such ludicrous declarations. It isn’t helping mentally ill people to spout such ill informed nonsense.

Same. They could have died being roomed with this nut.

You might consider saying that to a mirror.

This is so true unfortunately. People who describe themselves as “pure logic” are almost always mentally ill.

They may have been extremely ill but they/he/whoever wrote that bullshit treatise evince a spectacular contempt for other humans. I don’t think the Unabomber was as cold, off-putting, cruel or creepy as the author of that suicide/homicide scroll.

This is a really tough story to read. I am so sorry for this family. I am indian american. In my family there is serious mental illness, including bipolar with schizoactive disorder. My brother has this and refuses to get help. Luckily he has not been violent. He is very caring. But he goes in snd out of psychosis, believing paranoid delusions. Yes, he is against the covid vaccine. He believes in many of the conspiracy theories. I dont know what to do since he wont get help. Mental illness is so serious. To me there’s a lot of overlap between diagnoses. He sometimes seems schizophrenic. He is much more mani than depressive. He is narcissistic. He has also practiced self harm. I share all this not because i have an answer, but i believe we as a society need to have some real talk about mental illness. What can be done for kids like this, of my brother?

It has the same self-pitying yet also aggrandizing vibe as an incel manifesto, just a different theme.

Yes. Their sister was so close to getting some taste of freedom and they had to kill her. I’m just disgusted. Imagine her life of having her brothers bonded and watching The Office endlessly and plotting against them all. There is illness, but it’s also repulsive. Girls and women in this country, whatever their families of origin, are acculturated with those important soft skills to have empathy, to understand, essentially to go along to get along in lots of circumstances. I can’t describe how infuriating it is to me that the girl was annihilated before having her own taste of college, her own post-Covid space to breathe and experience that.

To the PP who is Indian-American and worried about her brother, I am so sorry. I think engagement is all one can do on one level. This case is maddening in part because that heinous note does indicate that one (both?) of the brothers received care, that the father/elders were involved and didn’t just wish it away. I hope for the best for you.

I wonder how the gender bias her would change ad more young women are taught to be “doers” rather than “supporters”.

I really don’t know. I’m 46 and I wouldn’t need the tip of whether the author of that note were male or female, it was abundantly clear. Perhaps for my DD’s generation it will be different.

A long ramble that shows someone thinks the world is theirs only the world is too stupid to understand that is 999,999 times out of a million written by a rotten man, the only question is his age.

On the note text that has been posted so far, he sounds like a psychopath.

He didn't say specifically. He said he just told him 'everything'.
