Or you could look at it the other way around and say that Alexandria teams are at least as good as Loudoun's with only a fraction of the player base, so clearly Alexandria coaches are performing far better than Loudoun's and they deserve to be paid more. Or you could just let the customers decide whether they are happy with the service they are receiving at the price they are paying. |
Nope. You could (and should) have three people for the amount that is being paid. Why waste all that money on overhead when you could hire coaches to actually work with the kids. Alexandrians are getting robbed, plain and simple. |

Sorry but your point is not well taken. My kid transferred to Alexandria at u13. Now U17 and we have been happy with the value we get, the field space, the training, the community focused program and dare i say Tommy.
some people actually like their clubs. Ok fire away haters, i just served up a softball for you all |
No they're not. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay anything. They are being given a choice - the Alexandria product at the Alexandria price, or whatever club they wish to choose at aa different price. Many - unsurprisingly - choose the Alexandria product because the product is great and the price is not much, if at all, higher than anyone else's. How Alexandria choose to allocate their revenue is up to them. And I'd far rather have one guy who knows what he is doing and creates a superior product than three lazy stooges who have no idea how to teach kids to play soccer. And I'm not associated with Alexandria. My DS is at a different club - but I have seen their teams play and they play good, attractive soccer and the kids have developed technically. There are clubs who charge plenty more who cannot make the same claims. |
Exactly. If Tommy can create a superior product, then he gest to earn more money. Good for him. If/when his product stops being superiror, his paycheck will follow. |
It’s much cheaper for nonprofit community organizations. |

| This discussion is asinine. Where are these critics when they buy stuff at Walmart or Amazon, or hop in their Ford or Honda, or go to INOVA (which is also a non profit) for their medical services. If you don’t like it, go to another club. |
+100 Exactly. |
These statements no sense. What is asinine is people not understanding what they are buying and how they are being exploited. You would think that if you’re going to have your kid participate with an organization, you should spend some time researching that organization. |
you're paying for a product. If you don't like the value that you get go elsewhere. It's not hard. There are plenty of people at both clubs who think they are getting a good enough deal to come back year after year |
They make absolute sense. Alexandria does an excellent job teaching kids to play soccer. As good a job as any club in the area, and better than most. They don't charge any more than many other clubs, and considerably less than some. That is not exploiting anyone or anything. Almost everyone I know who has kids there is happy, and the kids are happy. If you want to talk about organizations that exploit their customers, look at places like Loudoun (charge too much, no refund for rec during covid, poor coaching) or CYA (charge more than Alexandria for absolutely horrible development). Or DCU who block kids playing for other MLS teams while refusing to invest in their own youth program. Those are examples of exploitation. Alexandria runs a great program. And the guy who runs it deserves every penny he pays himself. The only thing that makes no sense is you. |
| Our academy team had 1 paid coach for 60 kids and the rest parent volunteers |
Alexandria on the boards slinging more BS. Tommy continues to exploit the community and the kids suffer. If your OK with that, fine. A responsible parent would avoid putting their kid in this environment. |
| To go back to the main point of this thread, I don’t think anyone that wants to get rich should start a youth soccer club. The owner might make a decent living and on occasion a top TD or coach might make a close to but still below DC metro area median salary, but no one is getting “rich”. You start or run a club because you simply love the game and (hopefully) want to teach kids the game. Over time, perhaps the parental pressure makes the club end up focusing on winning vs. developing (although if you’re developing you’re probably doing mostly winning over a period of time). |
